Food Show Simulcast?

Today's Taylor on Radio-Info column reports the Saturday food show
on KNX 1070 (10 AM-1 PM) will also now be simulcast on KFWB 980.

News purists would hope this is a temporary thing and that the show
will shortly slide over to KFWB only, letting KNX restore its news wheel
in that slot.

Sorry Melinda, but news--and especially traffic--is a much bigger need
in that weekend daypart than a food show!

There's also a Sunday version on KNX--maybe they'll take the hint there
too, and move it to KFWB.

It's hard to swallow that in a market as vast and complex as L.A. that the only true all-news radio station left in town airs a FRIGGIN' FOOD SHOW on weekends. There is enough going on in the world, in the state and simply here in SoCal that at least one station should be completely, 100% dedicated to NEWS. Period.

Last weekend while four to five lanes of the northbound I-5 in the SFV were shut down for a major multi-car wreck Sig Alert -- and holiday travelers were stuck for at least an hour -- Melinda Lee was hogging up BOTH KNX 1070 and KFWB 980 cackling about turkey leftovers and cured ham. Shut up already and stick your head in the oven.

Interesting that you heard her on both stations when this coming weekend is her first weekend on KFWB. Yes, I agree that KNX should be all news, but this show has been on for a while now, as has Tech News. I am sure they will both join the KFWB line-up full time at some point.

The priority that CBS has given to her show through the years is quite curious. Either she gets boffo ratings, pays to play or has some compromising pictures and home phone number of some executive. No other explanation makes any sense.

KNX has spent more time over the decades claiming to be all news, then it actually has been all news...
In the '80's and into the '90's it carried the tag as "all news" while it ran a "late night drama hour," usc football, usc basketball, monday night football and some baseball playoffs.

And don't forget that KNX used to air a daily food show in the mid-morning slot which Melinda Lee was a part of at one time.

Just maybe her show generates a lot of revenue...

If Los Angeles really wanted an all news station so much then the ratings for KNX would be higher and KFWB would still be some kind of all news format. In the meantime KFI provides timely traffic reports so twist on down to 640AM if that is what you need. However in my experience I was already well into any of the traffic tie ups before hearing about them on the radio so there is no actual real up to the minute reporting anywhere.

I remember back in ancient times of my growing up in Ohio that all radio stations were more full service oriented and somehow we survived waiting for news at the top or top and bottom of the hours. That being said, given the format change of KFWB that Melinda Lee could be a better fit on 980, however some kind of short form food features would not be out of place on KNX as well.
