Football doubleheader runovers on FOX & CBS.

With yesterday & next Sunday's scheduled doubleheader weeks on CBS, The network had to bump up its schedule-by 30 minutes, and it started the Sunday program schedule-only 7 minutes late. Like for instance, 60 Minutes started at 6:37PM-Followed by Big Brother, The Mentalist, & The Good Wife. And I think the DVR's will be wearing everything all out. On September 30th, Fox will have the DH week, and all of its shows on its Animation Domination schedule will be starting on time. CBS will alternate with FOX for DH Sundays throughout the remainder of The 2012-13 NFL regular season schedule.

This was part of the reason FOX started their The OT show to begin with...as filler to either 7:30 or 8 PM ET, depending on the game which your market received. CBS usually delays their ET/CT prime time and starts it immediately once the NFL is done. Here in greater Hartford, I'm paying attention to FOX coverage in week 4, since Family Guy and the other shows are premiering that night.

You'd think there's a way those of us with TiVos could get the entire episodes instead of just parts of them.

It's better just to end the games on time.

I wished CBS would carry a highlight show like FOX's The OT-to fill up the remaining time left after the final play of each NFL late afternoon game on DH weeks-And it WILL start 60 Minutes on time at 7PM/8PM East; Followed by The Amazing Race & The Good Wife; Then, Your Local News at 10PM/11PM East.

The same as has been happening for years and years and years.
Though I suspect with some of the new rule changes (moving kickoffs to the 35)
and the replacement refs stumbling around out there games this year are going to
average on the long side.

No, but it would be considerate of the teams not to get in a situation that causes them to go into overtime in these situations.

I'm sure that's just what the Jets were thinking when they allowed the Raiders to score twice for the win. ;D

Your issue is with the networks, not the football teams. They are the ones who guaranteed staying with a game in progress until it ended. Considering the amounts of money involved I really doubt you will win this one.

Disclosure: I don't watch the NFL.

So why doesn't CBS do like Fox and schedule a postgame show to fill in the time until 8 PM ET and put 60 Minutes on at that time, then have one less program on during football season? Or does that make too much sense? ::)

It makes sense except that C(BS) has actual viewers on the weekends whereas Fox...... ;D

Yeah, the latter. There are some things people just count on to be there at their appointed time, and 60 Minutes at 7/6 PM is one of them. The NFL just forced the issue.

you can't push 60 minutes too much past those 50+ viewers 8PM bedtimes

I think CBS is still very popular with old people, whereas FOX, however-Whose audience is mostly made up of young males who are trying to blend up with their rich parents and live a million-dollar lifestyle of driving their Cadillacs and living in luxury high-rises while watching prime time cartoons that follows a full day of football.

Re: Football doubleheader runovers on FOX & CS.

Plus, the high ratings that CBS gets are more important than the whining of a few thousand folks who can't master the "extend" feature on their recording device. If the network were to tag on some mindless recap/highlight show, the audience would dwindle and dwindle and dwindle each minute, forcing the 8PM show to start all over again and create ratings momentum on its own.

As it is, the sport fanatic is switching to NBC for their Sunday Night Game. Aside from a few rare situations, there isn't going to be much audience for highlights/interviews/commentary.

The best solution is some type of "flex" schedule for 60 Minutes, with the show inserting news/profiles/stories to pad whatever time might be needed (making "60 Minutes" actually "85 Minutes" or "117 Minutes"). I think the network flirted with that in the past and I recall a few times in the West when we got a few extra (rerun) 60 Minutes stories to pad an extra hour when the network ditched the 10PM ET program.

Frankly, I suspect the network is happy with things as they are. They get to crow weekly about the high ratings for both the football overrun and 60 Minutes.

a poor 20 something is worth more to advertisers than a rich 50 something

A lot of stations aren't happy when their 11PM (10 central) news gets pushed closer to midnight, with whatever they run after the news pushing closer to 1AM (a lot times its just infomercials)

They can just move their Newscast to a Secondary channel if they have one. 60 minutes can be moved to Saturday Nights. NFL can move the start times of Games up an hour so CBS programming at 7pm can start on time.

Not all stations have a secondary channel available.

60 minutes can be moved to Saturday Nights.

Not a chance. It would be opposite college football on ESPNonABC and/or Fox. Folks might not remember to tune in on Saturday night since they're used to it being on Sundays. And few people other than sports fans watch TV on Saturday nights anyway.

NFL can move the start times of Games up an hour so CBS programming at 7pm can start on time.

Again, not a chance. The games start at 10 AM Pacific time now. I'd be very surprised if the NFL would go for a 9 AM PT start. CBS and Fox don't make the rules - the league does.

I said NFL can move start time. West Coast viewers usly just get their teams.

Not everybody watches College Football Games on Saturdays. Also Unsolved Mysteries is on Saturday's.

All markets get at least one early game on either CBS or Fox - sometimes one on each, depending on the market and whether it's an NFL city. Check The506.com for games and times. This past Sunday, all markets except for NYC, Boston, Charlotte, and Indianapolis had an early game on CBS, including all west coast markets. In the Pacific time zone, southern California, Arizona, and half of Nevada (LV and SLC markets) also had an early game on Fox.

Plus, you've never heard of Sunday Ticket? All games are available to everybody, if not on broadcast TV, then in a sports bar should one decide to go to one.
