Pat also had a regular show (or a sit-in with the existing show) at least once a week on Q102 mornings. Nice guy, and great on the radio, as I recall. Met him once about 30 years ago.

I believe I have both ads featuring Charlie and Cliff. One is particularly collectible, as it mentions "KFWD 102.1" in the fine print...which was the case for the first month of the regular season in 1978, before flipping to KTXQ on October 6. Seems like the Cliff ad was a full page facial close-up with him smiling big and twirling his moustache. The quote was something like, "Cliff gets no interference in stereo."

Another one (that I just happen to have on hand!), photoless in this case, said, "Roger isn't scrambled. Dallas Cowboy Football. Loud and Clear on Q102. Enjoy Verne, Brad, and the whole Cowboy game on clear, clean FM. Q102." The fine print read, "KTXQ Radio, Q102, Fort Worth/Dallas. Mutual Southwest Radio Network, (c)1978 TRG."

Wish I had one of those.....I never save anything---and then regret it years later. Oh, well.

I'll get you hooked up with a couple of scans at least. I just moved a few weeks ago and everything's still packed away in about a thousand unlabeled boxes...the Cliff Harris one WILL show up eventually! Email me with a reminder at [email protected].

Nah, my problem is just the opposite...saving EVERYTHING and having a house that looks more like a museum (or the Sanford and Son living room...)

I've got a safe containing some radio station articles from the 1980's. I can scan them and e-mail them to you, for your collection. ;)

I have been meaning to scan them to a CD anyway.

Brazell and Sillerman were not willing to lose $ on the Cowboys broadcasts. It was a break-even proposition during the late '80's. KVIL took it on for the prestige factor. Pre and post programming, along with weekday bits, were the only way that KVIL could show any income. Jones created a new way to broadcast games on radio (spot revenue went to JJ for the most part). Don't you remember when JJ looked into buying a station to have even more control?
