Football!!

I read below that UAB is now on a big stick at 107.7. Who's carrying Alabama and Auburn this year in Birmingham? Historically they've been all over the dial.

Auburn will be on WJOX (100.5)....Alabama will be on WZRR (99.5) and WSPZ (690)....and for what it's worth, Samford will be on WATV (900) as well as the big 91.1 (sarcasm intended and allowed, since I'm a proud graduate of Samford), WVSU.

Far as I know now, Auburn football will be heard on the following stations, in my market:

WLWI 92.3 FM Montgomery
WDXX 100.1 FM Selma

Far as I know now, Alabama Football will be heard on the following stations, in my market:

WXFX 95.1 Montgomery
WINL 98.5 Demopolis
WDXX 100.1 Selma
WHBB 1490 Selma

For that WDXX listing, they've been carrying both Auburn and Alabama football for years now. At one time WALX and WMRK was the Auburn station, for Selma but they dropped them, a few years back.

Far as I know now, UAB Football will be heard on the following stations, in my market:

WIQR 1410 AM Prattville

Far as I know now, Troy State Football will be heard on the following stations, in my market:

WHBB 1490 AM Selma

Thank you very much for the info! Anyone in the Dthn mkt carrying the Tide? Think JJN had it last year, can anyone confirm?

That's an interesting choice--900 WATV partnering with 91.1 to air Samford games. I know WVSU doesn't cover the city all that well, but WATV (and possibly WJLD) has been a home for either ASU or AA&M games. However, 900 isn't bad during the day, as long as you aren't too far from the city limits. With Pat Sullivan debuting as the Bulldog head football coach, there'll be plenty of new eyes on Samford, and perhaps WATV is hoping for some new ears, too.

Someone also mentioned Hot 107.7 getting UAB football and basketball (link). Big collegiate sports properties haven't usually been housed on urban FMs, so that's notable--but didn't UAB games air on 107.7 (as WENN) once before?

Why does Auburn get banished to 100.5 (leaving 94.5) and Alabama air on two stations...that already overlap...oh fLLLck it, never mind. ::)

I remember WAGF 101.3 being listed as the Alabama affiliate, but both 101.3 and WJJN 92.1 are co-owned, so they could have simply slid the games to the higher rated station (92.1).

IIRC, WENN did indeed carry UAB football and hoops in the early to late '90's. It seems to me that Gary Sanders was paired with WENN announcer Dave Donnell.

Since UAB started their basketball program in '78-'79, they've been on these stations, in no particular order: WYDE-AM (850), WSGN-AM (610), WAPI-AM (1070), back to WYDE-AM, WENN-FM (107.7), WYDE-FM (101.1, with a couple of games relegated to WDJC), and now WUHT-FM (107.7). In the same time, Alabama has been on WERC/WKXX, WZRR/WJOX, WODL and back to WZRR. Auburn has gone from WAPI-AM/FM to WSGN to WAPI to WERC/WMJJ to WYDE/WWBR to WZRR/WJOX to WYSF (former WAPI-FM) and now to WJOX-FM. As for what this has to do with the price of eggs in China, I don't know, but I thought I'd throw it in! :)

Someone told me that they saw in the Birmingham newspaper that the Samford games would be carried on WAPZ in the Montgomery Market. Does anybody know if that is true?

Just to review... are these correct?

WVAS-FM 90.7 will carry Alabama State University football
WLWI-FM 92.3 will carry Auburn University football
WTBF-FM 94.7 and WQKS-FM 96.1 will carry Troy University football
WXFX-FM 95.1 will carry University of Alabama football

I don't know who will carry Huntingdon, Faulkner, Tuskegee, or any of the other local teams this year.

To follow with you MBird, you're correct on the latter...(add WMSP-AM to carry Auburn football as well.) Faulkner football games are slated to be carried on WLWI-AM Newsradio 1440. Huntingdon broadcasted on WNZZ-AM 950 in the past...dunno if they're going to be carried there this year. Tuskegee football more than likely will be carried on WBIL-AM out of Tuskegee.

So I'm at the Summit waiting on my wife to get outta some shop, trying to listen to the Auburn game on my walkman. WLWI out of Montgomery came in better than 100.5 (more of a Tuscaloosa station than B'ham). Reception not much better in Hoover.
No problem picking up the Tide on Rock 99.5.
Next football Saturday I'm held hostage, I'll stay in the car. ;D
I will say the Summit parking lot is a good place for DXing.

roll tide

Too bad Citadel didn't pair 100.5 and 690 for Auburn, leaving 99.5 for Alabama. I can't think of many places where 690 reaches that isn't a) covered by another Bama affiliate or b) inside 99.5's coverage.

And, no offense to any Blazers on here, but I am shocked that they have affiliates outside of Birmingham!
