Footy Back Full Time?

I just found this forum....and now I'm ready to crawl into a ball and bawl! Glenn Beck out and replaced by Footy? It just can't be. So now my two favorite morning shows are gone....Defede and Beck. This is awful.
Hold your tears. It's not like Beck isn't one hundreds of stations.
He's on 1290.

For a syndicated station, 1290-WJNO appears to have a balance in programming:

12:00am-5:00am Coast to Coast AM with George Noory
5:00-9:00am The Palm Beaches' Morning Report w/ Jon Howe
9:00-12:00pm Glenn Beck
Noon-3:00pm Rush Limbaugh
3:00-6:00pm Randi Rhodes
6:00-9:00pm Ed Schultz
9:00pm-12am Sean Hannity

Or you could by an XM Radio to hear Beck.

Thanks for all the consolations....I did not know about 1290 (can I get that in Miami?)...I'll check it out, and yes I know Defede will be back in December on 850...which I will have to live stream...I only get that station in my car.

1290's signal really hugs it to Palm Beach County but if you live in North Broward you could get it.

It makes sense that Beck is/ could be getting the boot at WIOD. Ken Charles, when he was at CC Houston, booted Glenn out of the 950 KPRC midday slot for local shows about 2 years ago.

So is Ken Charles also in charge of WIOD programing? If so, he is single handedly ruining my mornings - got rid of Defede and now Glenn Beck.

What's so special about a syndiicated show? It's not like there's much compelling listener involvement with talk of national issues, which BTW occupies every single hour of the rest of the station's day.

Besides, another NT station may pick him up.

I personally think Hannity would have been a better choice to boot out the door.

They would never let Hannity go. They know how popular he is on a national scale. Keeping him at night on WIOD is like keeping him locked up from the competition so that a station like WFTL doesn't put him in afternoons. WFLA in Tampa does the same.

Here's the new schedule:

5 AM - South Florida's First News w/Dave LaMont
9 AM - Footy
12 PM - Rush Limbaugh
3 PM - Schnitt Show
6 PM - Sean Hannity
9 PM - Glenn Beck
11 PM - Mark Levin
1 AM - Coast to Coast

Don62, I understand the push for a local show vs a syndicated show...except when you don't have the talent available...Glenn Beck is informative and very entertaining....Footy - not so much. I won't be tuning in to him even though he's local. Local doesn't trump boring.

How do you know good local talent isn't available?

I was in the area the day after Hurricane Wilma struck. I was struck by the amount of great local hosts that ruled the airwaves. They were compelling and made for good shows that had everyone tuned in.
I diidn't hear a snooze fest or potty-talk.

I've heard a slough of great local hosts this past year, from Rick Roberts in San Diego to Chris Stigall in Kansas City to "Pag" in San Antonio to some of the greats in the Baltimore-DC station that has local hosts (can't recall their names immediately).

I don't think talk stations have to be all local talk. A good mixture of local and syndicated, with at least a local host in the mid-morning or afternoon drive, seems to work well and attract attention and listeners.

Thank you for the compliment. I was one of those local hosts.
I was new to the area on business, and was in one of the few hotels in West Palm that had electricity.
It sounded like a couple of the AMs were running the same programming. I can't remember who was doing what but I am sure 610 was all live and local. I don't recall hearing any syndicated shows at all ( good things ) during those immediate days.

I liked the male host I heard in the morning- mid-morning. Can't recall any of the names but do remember they sounded very professional and were what radio is supposed to be about.

Was probably Brian Freeman in the morning hours. Michael Woulfe in the afternoon. Then Ed Arnold at night. John Levitt overnights. Of course, they were always surrounded by a damn good news department.
