Now that Footy's talk show has been on WIOD for a while, what does everybody think?
Personally, I think it's the most localized radio show in Miami. Neil?...NOT! Sports stations?...
Only if you wanna hear jocks grunting for hours. Almost shocking that Clear Channel would
give an unproven talk show host a 3-hour program, 5 days a week, and let him run with it.
It seems to be working and Footy seems to be having fun. I hear advertising support is very
good, too. Maybe Clear Channel management will take note, and use Footy's highly-localized
show as a model for other markets, instead of all the syndication. Or maybe I'm dreaming.
 
Footy was an icon on Y100 for a LONG time. Unproven as a talk host, yes, but not unproven in the market. It's no surprise that the sales dollars have come in...his presence has been felt in the ad-money community for a long time as well.

But, the ratings have been flat, and not that great. Local is great, but only if you have the content to back it up. If the content is great, it doesn't matter if it's local or syndicated.

Not sure this falls under the definition of "working" but it certainly hasn't hurt them.
 
Loved him on FM, but i would say the show ranges from somewhat interesting to a complete borefest at times.

They can sell him. He's a local radio ICON it's a win win for everyone b/c he translates into dollars
 
Yes, even more overrated that Paul & Ron. Have you heard his show? Unlistenable! He does bring some business because he knows everyone in town and kisses all asses. How long will clients keep advertising with no ratings and no results?

If ratings are flat. Yet, they're making more money now than w/ Beck. Then they'll leave it on. It's the CC way.

Definitely. It's a win win for them. They get to keep one of their guys on & he makes them a ton of cash.

Just because the ratings are so-so, doesn't mean that the listeners are staying away from advertisers. Face it, Arbitron is the only game in town. They really do not give an accurate rating for all listeners in South Florida. A select few in a specific area/zip code/city get the diary.

For example, if 10 people in my area get a diary and between them they listen to 4 different stations, those stations get the credit. But what happens to the hundreds and hunderds who don't get diaries, who a number of them could be avid Footy listeners? They don't count because they weren't the chosen ones. You can not honestly look at a rating book and say Arbitron has a true pulse on this or any market. They've just been doing it for so long with little competition, it's all Radio has had to really go on.

As said in another post, Footy is an Icon in South Florida, while the skewed ratings may not show up to his favor in Arbitron, he and his name sell. If it didn't, he wouldn't have been at Y-100 for 30+ years and Clear Channel definately wouldn't have asked him to stick around first for the Saturday 9-12 Noon show, and the current weekday show.

Numbers are a nice badge to show, but they don't always mean what they say.
 
He may be an "icon." He may bring in advertisers. But that show SUCKS. I dont care how many years he was a sidekick on Y10. He's NOT a talk show host. He's NOT entertaining. He agrees with every caller! Pathetic. WIOD should be (and from what I hear, IS) embarrassed.

Granted, he's not a talk show host like Neil Rogers or Tom Leykis or Ed Shultz. We know that. You don't like to listen to someone, you change the dial. It's that easy. There are plenty of mouths across the dial who I don't care for, so I don't listen, and i'm sure that there are a buttload of people who do the same. I've checked out Footy, some days are good, some days are boring.

And it's not that he agrees with every caller, as i've heard him disagree many a time, the difference is, that he is for the most part, polite about it. Alot of listeners are used to hearing people told off or called a name or two if the host doesn't agree with them. Footy just does it his way. If WIOD is that unhappy with him, they'll can him or not renew his contract. CC has done it to others before, and they'll do it again....and again....
 
I think his show is good and remains a good local draw vs. the sameness offered by syndication ( hint, early evenings).

I was in town once when police had locked the town down because a cop killer was on the loose.
Footy did a great job keeping everyone informed, talking with his police contacts, etc. It was so timely and compelling, WIOD had Footy's show go over Rush's for an hour!

Does that tell you something or what?
 
WIOD is making $ w/ him. I would agree it ranges from solid to dreadful at times, but at least it's local. If I'm not interested in what he's talking about I have options. I don't want to hear Glenn Beck talk about the same things Rush Limbaugh is going to talk about a few hours later. Especially, since he's not as interesting or as good as Limbaugh. Besides, I can see Beck on TV regurgitate the same stuff on CNN Headline News in the evening. I'll take the mix of topics & discussion.
 
Maybe they will move Footy to the morning show on 610 now that they've fired Dave Lamont
 
they axed LaMont cuz they're cheap channel . word has it they only want puppets . LaMont was too good for the bastards. i hear he had ideas that were squashed each time.

besides, have you seen the guy? yeah, yeah it's radio. but dave's hot. espn or fox (TV) need to snatch him. i remember when, and dave's a great play by play guy!

LaMont has been doing college football games for ABC/ESPN for a couple of years now.
 
Back to Footy - he was off on Friday. Happened to be in my car around 11;30 and tuned in. (I didnt want to listen to whiny Stephanie Miller and Dr Laura was still on. :-X)

Ken Charles was filling in for Footy. LOL I changed my mind. Footy isn't that bad. But Ken SUCKED. What a stupid show. It's supposed to be on a news-talk station? All they did was make fun of Footy and kept telling listeners what to say on Monday to drive him nuts. Ken was talking up the posts of Beatles records.

With "Charles in Charge" over there, no wonder their ratings suck.
