http://www.bubblesandbones.com

Kelly Craig (NBC-6 News) reported on this gala last Saturday morning (the morning after) on "South Florida Today". It sounds like it was a lot of fun !

Did anyone out there in Radio-Info Land attend this event ?

Funny....my Radio-Info beeper just went hog wild!! ;D

Bubbles and Bones.........Y-100's foo foo attended benefit to raise lots of money for Footy's "Heres Help" It was also the monster that killed the Wing Ding. I had the honor of attending the very first one. Dan Marino, Gloria Estefan & K.C. were amongst the big names attending. It's an up-scale party with food, music and auctions. I bid on a Panthers pack, which gave me (for the $450+ that I bid on and won) 4 tickets in the lower bowl, a ride on the Zamboni (for a kid, so I brought my non-radio boss's kid and the boss as well as my non-wife who is a die hard panthers fan, and the reason that $$ wasn't an issue...it made her very happy!!) & an after game meeting w/ autographs of the panthers players.

I had an enjoyable time.......BUT (and ya knew that was coming).....it isn't the type of event for the average radio listening person. After the first one, the introductory freebie attending for us loyal staffers was O-VER!
We were told that if we wanted to attend the next one, we were going to pay the $250 per ticket fee, because "It's for charity". Whether the fee went up or not over the years, I couldn't tell you.

Bubbles and Bones......a/k/a Dom and Wings..........Bueller........Bueller.........Bueller

I thought for sure that you would have ponied-up the $300 this year for a gala seat, or $3,000 for a gala table, or even $3,500 for a VIP table ! Actually I was thinking that you would have gotten in for free as a loyal lifelong friend of the Foot-Meister !

Speaking of Footy ... and Kelly Craig of NBC-6 News ... Whatever happened to that proposed morning show co-hosted by the duo on an unidentified AM radio station that someone posted on here a month or two ago as an apparent 'insider tip' ?

The 2nd 96X Family Reunion is in the works!! If you were a 96X staffer or on the South Florida Airwaves during the days of "X" contact me at: [email protected] for details & updates as they're available. DO IT TODAY!!

Ooh ! Tell me more about this gala. Is this a foo-foo event, a private party for 96X-insiders only, or is it open to the general 'radio-listening' public ? ;D

We got the initial Freebie, sans the Bean. Nothin is free anymore, regardless of whom you may be (cept Footy i'm sure). I will be enjoying Thanksgiving dinner at Casa De Footy as part of my yearly commitment of friendship. I will pick his brain about his future plans then. I will also pass on that his public still craves him!

The 96X reunion #2 is in the works. We had the first reunion a couple years ago, and we figured since it was short notice, that a few others who may have wanted to come, couldn't. So...we're giving the formers enough time to try and get down here for the bash on the beach (at an undisclosed former staff members digs on da oh-chin). It isn't foo foo by any means, just old friends rehashing our pasts, listening to 96X compulations, hearing me sign off the station for the umpteenth time, and just plain ole catchin up on the present. Other than non-staffers, it'll be anyone who was a part of the South Fla. airwaves during the X years. Other than someone bringin a bud or spouse or pet, it's just open to radio folk. But don't fret, you know that when it goes down, I will give detailed details of the event. I will leave NO STONE UNTURNED! ;D

im just curious but what ever happened to Gino Latino, Bo Griffin, Phil Jones, and mark in the dark?

i know these were mostly 'tanner' people but i figured the mighty stuart might know...

im more interested in phil jones than anyone else..i remember he got bumped from dj to music director, but after that he went poof.
i remember last seeing Bo Griffin in the mid-late 90s doing infomercials for some cheapy local psychic friend network. not the one with that wierd guy with the white brillo-pad-like hair (ron&ron were on that one haha!)

I've been out of the business a little bit over 10 years, so this may be outdated info. Last time I heard, Gino was at one of the Latin stations here in Miami. As for Bo, I believe she is doing the TV thing out west. Phil..I have no clue, but when I talk to someone who worked with him at Power, i'll ask.

Mark in the Dark, is now Operations Manager / PD at 2 stations in Spokane, Washington. KAZZ-FM which is Classic Hits & KQQB-FM which is CHR/Rhythmic. The company is Pro-Active Media, owned by my first PD Jerry Clifton. Mark got the position in the beginning of 2006 and even asked me to come work for him....but I had to decline, as i'm not the single guy I once was & wasn't about to make the non-wife pick up and go. It was a tough decision, but if you know about this business, you could be here today and gone tomorrow. Non the less, I was very flattered that Mark wanted me to come work for him & Jerry. They're two of the greatest people to work with/for. Of all the people i've worked with in the industry, Mark is one of the few radio people I still keep in contact with. When you move on, you usually lose contact over time. Some you make an effort to keep in touch.

Stuart,

I meant to ask you. In your opinion (or possibly based on 'in-the-know' facts) do you think that Footy decided to quietly end the 'Wing Ding' a few years ago because it had grown way too big and out-of-control for its own good ? For example once-upon-a-time it was such a small affair - sort of like a local 'hometown' gathering. It came, everyone had fun, and it went. But as the years went on it got bigger and more all-encompassing. Towards the end Footy would begin talking about it on his morning show as much as 6 months in advance, and it probably took him much of the year to prepare for each new grande event. He sounded visibly exhausted after each event (which had essentially grown into a monster 2 or 3 day weekend concert event attracting national hit music artists and superstars).

I'm guessing that Footy has much less preparatory work to do nowadays with the 'Bubbles & Bones' than he did during the latter years of the 'Wing Ding', and (most importantly of all) he's probably raising more money with the new event than he ever did with the longtime event.

The end of the Wing-Ding was due to the fact of 2 things. 1) Bubbles and Bones. Even tho the Wing-Ding raised good money for Heres's Help, Bubbles and Bones raised more. When it boils down to it, it's all about the money..which leads to #2...Bubbles and Bones. Due to the fact of having to bring in headlining talent for Bubbles and Bones, it was difficult to bring in top shelf talent for the Wing-Ding too. The Wing-Ding became the unwanted step child for that fact.

In my opinion, being forced out of Young Circle in Hollywood due to reconstruction of the area, and shifting it to Bayside in don-tong Me-amee was also a big factor. The last time we did the Wing-Ding was also the first year in Bayside, and you just didn't see the crowd you saw in Hollywood, and with Lenny Kravitz as your headlining act...that didn't help either.

Speaking of this potential social event of the season I just read the excellent article that you (Stuart) wrote about it - complete with pictures - in 954's brand new November 2006 edition of 'South Florida's Radio Pages'. You can link to it by going to my blog because 954 recently submitted an article to me regarding his entire Radio Pages for inclusion on my web site ! See how we link ! ::)

Major-

ThanX for the kind review of my first article for "South Florida's Radio Pages", I hope to do more in the future.

You know me, I NEVER mince words or add fluff to make something appear other than I really see it...of course, in my opinion. I think i've been given the ability to paint a picture with words in order to express my views about this industry. As I said in the article, and I really do believe it (talking to currently employed <changes daily> people in the industry), that the relationship between co-workers today, is a mere fraction of what Radio used to be. It's too bad that the Radio, almost on a daily basis, is becoming an industry that is losing its personal touch with the listener, for the sake of making a few extra dollars.

Then again, anyone who is in the business now, that hasn't been in more than the last 8-10 years, would most likely never understand where i'm coming from.

To think of the fun they've missed...............................
