iHeart did not buy Clear Channel. Clear Channel simply changed its name in an effort to emphasize its new media presence.

"Clear Channel" did seem to have some relevance to the radio biz whereas "iHeart" - just another dumb splat on the windshield to nowhere. I note that at least one current and very popular DJ seems to have some trouble saying "iHeart" - or perhaps it is the rolling of the eyes that says it all. OTOH, at least it will be more difficult to come up with nicknames for iHeart than for Chump Channel or Cheap Channel. Or maybe not.

What's interesting is that Gardner left KOOL-FM after the PPM measurement method began in Phoenix. As happened in quite a few markets and many stations, traditional morning shows with familiar names tended to get written down a lot in diaries, but turned out to have far less real listening in the PPM. In some cases, they stayed on and restructured their show. In others, they were let go or got a severe pay cut. But in all cases, at issue was the size of the audience vs. the compensation paid to the show host.

I really enjoyed listening to "Jack" on Kool, he was one of the last professional "Jock" DJs that KOOL had. When I listen to some of the Phoenix area stations, their DJs, talk show hosts, etc, some have lisps, speech impediments, stuttering, etc. it makes me wonder who hired these people that clearly do not have any voice training, or radio talent?

KTAR has a mid-morning talk show host that clearly does not have a voice for broadcasting. He stutters & stammers constantly, talks a mile a minute & has a whinny voice. It's sad where radio is going.
