For alternative which do you prefer kroq or 98.7 la's rock alternative???

Even though they both play basically the same music i would have to say kroq. I like there jocks better and there specialty shows. I love rodney on the rock. And joneys jukebox. But that show isnt quite the same show it was at indie but still worth a listen once a week. I miss jed the fish though  And kroq unlike 98.7 have a morning show!!!

I notice on some cc rock stations around the country they dont even have a morning show just music. Kennedy is fine but it isnt a morning show per say. I really miss jamie and danny when they were star 98.7.

I remember listening to jonesy and his jukebox on indie once and he finished his set with gilbert o sullivan alone again naturally and he came on and said "dont worry your not listening to kost"

i was visiting l.a. in 2006 and heard Jones on Indie talking about trying to score heroin in N.Y. when he was with the Sex Pistols...probably the most compelling radio i'd ever heard !

There is virtually no difference between the KROQ playlist and the KYSR playlist. Kennedy (Lisa Kennedy Montgomery) does mornings at KYSR. She formerly hosted MTV's Alternative Nation and co-hosted a KFI show with Bryan Suits. She is very knowledgeable about a wide range of subjects. "Knowledgeable" doesn't necessarily equate to "entertaining." In that category, KROQ's Kevin & Bean win the battle here...and, thus, so does the station.

I haven't been excited about listening to KROQ since 2004. That said, I have never been excited to listen to KYSR. KROQ doesn't sound anywhere near as innovative as it did in years past, but it still takes that award over KYSR.

the thing that's annoying about KROQ is every time I try to listen,
It's playing commercials..at least it seems. At least 98.7 will be playing music

Re commercials on music stations, recently on a weekday afternoon I was in the car with Mrs SuperRadioFan and we were listening to KSWD. Commercials came and just for the hellofit, I checked all the FM music stations. Without an exception, every single LA FM music station was on commercial break. It was almost unreal. God I sure hate commercials.

I have noticed that too. They all seem to take their commercial brakes at the same time. On those occasions, I switch to KCSN.

Chuck Blore, the genius behind KFWB's switch to a top-40 format in 1958, finally got around to publishing his book. It's called Okay, Okay, I Wrote The Book. After Blore left radio, he co-founded an ad agency. He says that some advertisers will buy the same minute on several stations at once, so no matter which station you tune to, you'll have to hear that particular commercial. Of course, as I discovered, there's also the "Off" button.

Most AM stations ran only one or two minutes of commercials at a time until album-rock stations came along in the late 1960s and ran longer commercial blocks so they could play longer music sets. Then the AM stations followed suit. Now stations like to brag about "a half-hour of commercial-free music." That sounds good...until you realize that the other half-hour will include two nine-minute commercial breaks!

Every time I've been in LA, I've flicked between KROQ & KYSR. I must say as much as Kevin & Bean are local legends, they do nothing for me. I prefer music to empty talk. I liked what Kennedy is doing. easy to listen too, and informative.
I don't mind the commercials, as I'm in the industry in Australia and it doesn't faze me.

When KYSR first flipped/tweaked a few years back, they were ahead on new music before KROQ. Also, they tended to steer towards a more indie- softer alternative sound than what KROQ was playing at the time, and they were also intensive on 90s alternative.

In the past few years, though, alternative has started to return to a softer indie sound anyway and artists like Gotye, Fun., Imagine Dragons, etc are the new normal at alternative. KROQ now sounds like KYSR musically, so KYSR lost their edge, in my opinion.

KROQ has heritage and Kevin & Bean are still relevant- so I give the advantage to KROQ. Most of this was predicated, though, on KYSR and music in general driving KROQ towards a new sound.
