For country fans

Go Country NY was set up a couple of days after WOR started its online country station, The Elephant.
I see on the website, gocountryny.com that the stream now has dj's from 5am-8pm. They are different from the ones that broadcast on the home station in Los Angeles, so perhaps this is really customized programming for New York. I will try to listen earlier in the day, when the personalities have their shows.

What's the point of Mount Wilson doing this in New York?

To try and throw off the "elephant" in the room... And, of course, the "elephant" has caught wind of Go Country's presence to warrant an on-air barb at them.

I still don't get it? Why go after some internet radio station?! What on-air barb are you talking about?

My guess is that both WOR and Go Country from Los Angeles were both separately planning country online streams aimed at New York. After WOR's the Elephant started up, Go Country New York was rushed out.
I listened to Go Country New York this morning. They now have (probably voicetracked) dj's now, who are heard a few times each hour. But while New York is mentioned, there was nothing said that sounded local to this area. Naturally that could get tweaked over time.
I read that Go Country's parent company, Mt. Wilson Broadcasting, had tried to purchase a station in New York, but that this attempt did not work out.
While there are plenty of country stations available in New York online, and one or two on HD2, it would be good to have at least one that mentions doings in the New York area.

How many people do they actually think are going to listen to these internet streams that they need to be competing against one another? It hardly seems worth talking about. If I'm going to sit in front of a computer and listen to music over the internet I'll go to a site like Grooveshark and pick the songs I want to hear. I love country music, and wish we could get a real country station in the NYC area. An internet station just won't cut it for me, particularly since the majority of my radio listening is in the car.

Yeah, if you're going to do county and try something that someone will actually try and listen to,put it on the air somehow.Theres country stations still out there, why NYC doesn't have one
is just plain mind boggling.Saying the type of people that live in NY,dont listen to country is biased
and wrong.I think the record industry is in cahoots with the broadcast industry and they are trying to keep country out of the NY market for some reason. When was the last country format in NYC? MY PROOF: WKHK on 106.7,that was in the 80s!<cough>

:( country would not make it in NY, they tried. I loved WYNY and Y100 and the people were wonderful!!! I like the old country stuff, not so much the new. Sirius plays it all.

Yeah, back in the 80s they tried! That was years ago....
Either you have a winning format or not,Q104.3 is classic rock and does ok in a city of
non-rock type people. On the other hand 101.9 is rock and it isnt billing as good.
My point is,if done correctly,it could work-
Dont we have enough of the same?

Y 107 ,103.5,106.7 and 1050 were great places for country---back then!!!!Today, the NY market is much different. There is more of a chance of regional mexican being added on a NYC signal--in addition to 92.7 garden city--than there is of a country outlet emerging. Here in Brooklyn,11230, we see all the signals available to us NOT going anywhere close to country!!!! In 2003, the Breeze's automated format was playing up to 40% country crossovers----today the Breeze is losing its focus musicwise and Hit 106 will stay Hit 106.I have my hd radio, computer and countless cassettes recorded off out-of- town country stations. The truth is that go country nyc and the elephant are not needed when you have countless options these days. Will 970 drop Sliwa and company and become 970 country again????? I doubt it.
