For Older St. Louisans (repost)

Note: I apologize; this should have been placed here instead of the standard "Missouri state" board.

I have a former co-worker who still works part-time in radio after all of these years and he and I often discuss various radio-related topics, both past and present. He told me once of a St. Louis DJ that allegedly announced during rush hour (I don't remember if he said it was morning or afternoon) that he had placed a 500-dollar bill under the hood of someone's car and invited the person who found it to call him right away on the listener line. This resulted in everybody and their brother, who happened to be driving on city streets and interstates at the time, pulling over immediately and getting out of their cars, then checking under their hoods. It caused all sorts of traffic-related catastrophes (no accidents, thank God) and the whole thing turned out to be a scam.

Does anybody know anything about this? It's been a long time since he told me this story and it supposedly happened back in either the 60's, 70's, or early 80's (before I had gotten bitten by the radio bug and began listening to radio extensively), so I don't remember anything about it. It may even be possible that I don't have my facts straight about this since it was a long time ago when he told me this story. Just curious!
