Hello all,
As an engineer, one of the frustrations in my work is when I complete a design, the design gets changed by someone else, and I am expected to support it and fix problems. This is not only difficult, it usually doesn't work. That is why if you build Carl's antenna, or others that you find on the net, you should follow their instructions to the letter. They know their design works and it is not reasonable to change it and then ask them to help you.
On the other hand, if you are interested in the technology and like to experiment, learn from others and build on it. I am in this category. For the techies among us, I want to share a site I found. It is heavy duty math and theory wise, but I found it interesting. Once on the linked site, follow the other links and you will find what I belive is a treasure chest of antenna stuff.
