It's a very interesting situation here in the New York Metro area.

If in the city or in New Jersey, I have Pulse 87 on. However, if I'm out on Long Island and I get very deep into it (Ronkonkoma), then I have Party 105 on! I also have Party 105 on when I'm driving in Connecticut. Problem is, Party 105 used to come in VERY strong in Bridgeport (Exit 27) but some classical station which could be heard in the area on 88.1 decides to put up a translator on 105.3, thus blocking the Party signal! The translator basically covers from Westport to around Orange/Milford. But after New Haven, I get Party 105 perfectly until about Exit 70 (Society Road) on I-95, past Old Saybrook, CT.

I'm moving around!

That is going to be VERY interesting!

In a "poor man's" method I'm plugging my cell phone into a "USB to female headphone jack" adapter, plugging that into the car stereo and hearing streams that way. But once those Internet radios become "standard" in cars, it will surely revolutionize things. Once 4G technology kicks in, then yeah, it will be possible to hear a stream in rural areas without any dropping out (which is what happens on my 3G phone....not a problem in New York City but once past Albany heading north, the stream does drop out until nearing Montreal).

I tried webcasting listening via Cell phone in the car... Doesnt work unless your in a 3g area,, and you will get charged minutes for international calls if you listen to Internatinal stations...

As long as you get unlimited data and listen to stations like Energy 98,,, B-91,, and my station Energy 1620,,, Pulse 87,, Z88.9,,, KHNC you will be fine.

GREAT!

Now it's time for me to start reposting my "internet radio in cars" and "make the switch to internet radio" blogs again to get people to think "internet radio.... free..... no subscription.... much more music". Hopefully they will also eventually have receivers dedicated purely to picking up I-radio streams and stations, where people could just simply go without having to go through the entire process of logging on and doing a search.

I've had my iPhone for 2 weeks. I play Energy 98 in my car on every trip. Dance FM's with their current limited playlists can't compete. And because we DO NOT PLAY mp3 source files - our stream sounds cleaner than most FM's anyway

this guy still tooting his own horn? enough, and most labels don't even support wave copies anymore. all the promos are rarely pressed, only to be delivered as MP3's. sounds like your playlist must be missing alot of songs if you don't use MP3's

Another thought, i would guess you rely heavily on compilations like "Promo Only" or ERG since they actually press wave copies on CD. However, I can guarentee a good amount of the stuff they include on the CD's were not wave sources at first. I've come across PLENTY of questionable "waves" that have bad quality

Actually, Energy 98 gets direct service from tons of labels and buys a lot of music, especially imports. And while we do service them with the Promo Only issues, Mike is usually already on a lot of the music when he gets it.

Contrary to popular belief, labels still do service cd's. And will give you a choice of .wav or mp3 on digital delivery. It just depends on your relationship with the promotions departments. And they have good relationships.

My sataion in Australia (also broadcasting online www.freshfm.com.au) is 100% dance and R&B. We get most of our tunes from promo both CD and MP3 format.

1am-6pm is formatted playlis music then 6pm-1am is specialist show DJs playing their own tunes. Because of this, as well as receiving promos from the record companies, because each DJ has their own contacts we also have a lot of tracks and remixes sent straight from the producers to our DJs. Some of these tunes then get passed onto the music director for daytime rotation.

This works well because each DJ plays a different style of music and is obviously knowledgeable in their specific area so it keeps the station (excuse the pun!) fresh!
