Although I graduated from high school in the mid-70's, I've always listened to WOGL to get my fix of "pre-64 rock and roll", too, but especially the 50's music. Although it had disappeared in recent years from weekday programming, there was nothing like Sunday nights hearing doo wop knowing my father, who graduated in the 50's, was listening, too and enjoying it. I grew up listening to his 45's with that type of music. I'm really going to miss early Sunday evenings without it.
I do have to say that I was walking on Sunday afternoon when my music tape ended. I knew it was now 70's music on Sundays and although I grew up in that era I wasn't really into it (except for a certain bubblegum music bent which I take the 5th on!). I hit the FM button on my Walkman and before I had a chance to turn the station, low and behold, I hear "Oh, Babe, What Would You Say" by Hurricane Smith. Although it is a song that I would never be able to call to mind by itself and it would never appear on a list of favorites, it brought a smile to my face and I really enjoyed hearing it again. If WOGL can bring us some variety like that little gem that's rarely heard on today's airwaves, that could only be a good thing.
