Clear Channel/Dallas Names Rick O'Bryan KDMX PD

Clear Channel AC KHMX/Houston Asst. PD/MD and afternoon personality Rick O'Bryan will stay within state lines as he moves up co-owned Hot AC KDMX (Mix 102.9)/Dallas, becoming the station's PD. He takes over programming duties at the station from Clear Channel/Dallas OM Pat McMahon. O'Bryan will also handle on-air duties as Mix's new afternoon drive personality.

"Rick is the perfect fit for KDMX," McMahon tells R&R. "He's a real student of the Hot AC format and a solid on-air guy. After years of tutelage from Houston AC programmer Buddy Scott, Rick is ready to sit at the big table with the other Texas PDs. He's been a tremendous asset in Houston, and we're confident he'll bring game to his new position in Dallas."

O'Bryan's previous experience includes stints at KWMX and KCKK in Denver, and at KIOI/San Francisco. O'Bryan's return to Dallas as KHMX's PD is also a homecoming -- he was the original evening host at KHMX when it launched in May 1991.

"If I were to hand-pick the one market, one station I would like to program, this would be it," O'Bryan says. "I can't wait to move up I-45!"

I hope they dump those 80s and just focus on "The 90's and Now" like Mix/Houston. KHMX is a helluva better station than Mix here.
______________

I wouldn't bet on that happening. The story neglects to tell you that Rick O'Bryan was with Cox Communication Houston before his brief stint at KHMX. He was the first on-air personality at KHPT-FM here in Houston, which is our 80's station. He has only been on KHMX for a year or maybe a little longer. He is not a bad on air personality. Good voice, good presentation, but nothing really sticks out about his show. He sounds like most of the others they have employed at CC Houston.

I love these McMahon quotes..."Rick is the perfect fit for KDMX." --which means he can't do a damn thing without McMahon's ok. How he managed to bamboozle CC management into hiring somebody for a job HE is paid for is unbelievable. This way somebody else gets fired when Mix continues to be a slug in the market.--and it will. It's a TWO-SHARE station. The Clear Channel version of Scott Strong keeps his job again. What a business...and the other quote.."He's a solid on-air guy." --that means he can read the cards well. Good luck Rick. Now you're going to see what the real meaning of the word "delegate" is. McMahon has a PHD in that department. How many "OM's" can't even understand what one of their stations is saying on the air? Good job Pat!

I don't think Rick's time at KHPT will make any difference.
If I remember correctly, Rick started at KHMX in the earlier part of 2003, if not before.
That was around the time the station re-imaged themselves and dropped off most of their 80's content.
Rick was there for at least 3 years.
I'm not sure how long he was at KHPT, but it couldn't have been more than a year or two.
______________
