Backing the loser never works in Vegas and it didn't work here. LOSERS!

Raccoon is strangely silent. He can no longer defend Todd Carr and Howie Feinburg.

So to be clear: if you disagree with the notion that WRKO is the embodiment of everything evil, than you must be Julie, Jason, or employed by Entercom?

Here's an alternate idea, just for the fun of it: maybe, just maybe, there are some of us that exist in the real world that believe that radio is a business, not some idealistic empire that exists beyond the bounds that regulate the rest of the known universe.

Simple fact that everyone seems to agree on: WRKO, as constituted a week ago, was a hugely unsuccessful station that was trending even worse. I think everyone would also agree that a talk station needs good talk show hosts to succeed and WRKO doesn't have alot of those to go around.

So how would keeping the news department make the hosts any better? You hated the station before, right?

Please, someone, anyone, throw out one constructive idea of how they would fix this thing. Casablanca hasn't done it, Panago hasn't done it, Varulven certainly hasn't done it (but he did enlighten us with some something about "name bands" that, well, really has no bearing on anything does it?).

Come on guys, have at it. What would you do?

imagine, for a second, that WRKO put some decent hosts un during the election time, and gave equal time to Kerry Healey and Deval Patrick and Ross & Mihos. Not the fear of getting bashed by a pro-Healey station, but true equal time. My my, a world of difference. This awful radio station pushing awful programming down the throats of people in a blue state is the problem. Time to play FUNKY COLD MEDINA 5 days in a row and emerge with a new format.

all this is based on the false premise that wrko is in "trouble." There is no sign of that anywhere. It does need a morning show, but its needed one for 9 years and still gets good ratings. If faces tough comp from Jay Severin, who we know is a top notch host because at times he gets ratings as high as Howie. Along with a proven new manager, they just bagged the Red Sox, so revenue problems, the only true challenge the station has faced are cured and a ratings bump comes along with the deal. The rest of this crap that you all obsess over on a regular basis is on the margins.

The only "anger" I have is over people whose only lot in life is to bash WRKO (and act like hypocrites, since it's obvious that they listen all the time) and contribute absolutely nothing of substance to the discussion.

You seem to forget that OJ doesn't HAVE a book. His publisher refuses to print it. And I don't recall seeing Howie Carr every day for a year on national TV, on trial for murder.

Not that a moral center counts for anything with scum broadcasting freaks like Julie "The Executioner" Khan and that runt Wolfe but firing NINE excellent newscaster a week before Thanksgiving because you say no one turns on WRKO radio for news and that people turn on WBZ radio for news show an incredible lack of understanding of talk radio. In good local talk radio a good local news staff can and should be the eyes and ears of a talk show host and producer.
Cannot tell you the number of times the then WRKO news staff directed this poster and directed the talk show host to breaking or important news stories that became the lead talk program topic. Maybe that is one of the reasons we were always number one across the board in our time slot. Plus the fact that I worked my backside off to be on top of the issues to feed the host.

So, Khan and Wolfe should be fired because their act is very destructive to the format which is talk radio.

She can sell Bufferin and Budweiser, especially if she has a short skirt, but she hasn't a clue about talk radio programming. Know this sound sexist but it is the inconvenient truth.

You do not need a better example of the news department feeding the talk department than to look at the WBZ Radio posts below. It was an on-call WBZ Radio news staff that fed Steve Leveille the breaking news which turned into breaking talk radio last night in the Danvers Chemical Plant explosion. At the same time WRKO was asleep..........zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

He or she who sleeps in this business...loses. Kahn and Wolfe were asleep, actually and metaphorically and they should be both fired immediately for letting the competition beat them to a topic.

Simply put, Julie Kahn and Jason Wolfe are dismal failures in the talk radio format. Let them go back to Jock-talk or Urban Rap where they belong and stop the pollution of the talk radio format with their excrement.

Guess what? This isn't 20 years ago. Radio operates in a very different universe from back then. And you have some nerve invoking a "moral center" when you're the one calling people "human excrement."

As a favor to Casablanca, I have agreed to translate his post for him:

1. I, Casablanca, don't like WRKO, primarily because I was once fired from there.
2. I also don't like either Julie Kahn or Jason Wolfe. Because my reasons for this are personal, and not based on their performance at their jobs, I will express my hate through misogynistic and otherwise personal attacks.
3. I cannot add. Only four newscasters lost their primary jobs at WRKO. Two others who only worked weekends were also let go. Four plus two is six, not nine.
4. I think myself clever for coming up with the "The Executioner" nickname and will continue to use while snickering at my own cleverness.
5. I seem unable to understand that WRKO and WBZ are not the same format station and are not primary competitors. WBZ is a 24-hour news station that also does talk. WRKO is a 24-talk station that also does news. This is an enormous difference that I chose to ignore in an effort to make points. If I really wanted to argue facts I would compare WRKO to WTKK, but I can't win that argument as FM Talk has even less of a news department than WRKO.
6. I clearly have no understanding of this business as currently constituted. The Entercom higher-ups don't care about whether or not WRKO aired the Danvers story at 3AM, 6AM, or never. They care about the bottom line. Even I will agree that Jason and Julie (the executioner, tee hee) have done their job in regards to that.
7. When this poster writes from "actual experience", that experience comes from the 80's. My experience now is doing something like driving an Old Towne Trolley around Boston. I will tell myself this is okay because I'm making more money now than I did in broadcasting. But, having burned every broadcasting bridge I once had (some twice), I really have no other choice at this point.
8. In a moment, I will angrily reply to this and make the same tired attempt at the same tired points. I will probably make fun of Julie and Jason again too. I have very little credibility.
