forced on him??

Paula O'Connor has made a mess of 96.9. Its a station that survives on the strength of one host, just like another talker in town. When one of these stations decides to start trying, the other one is in deep sheet. Why all the focus on WRKO without hardly any mention of the sleep-walkers who thought Michael Graham would be the next Severin? Where is the moaning over the horrible Barnacle show - another writer doing lousy radio? Why isn't she taken down a notch or two for keeping Imus on?

You are misguided if you think O'connor has been allowed to tie her shoes without permission from above at GM. She did not wreck that station, it was wrecked from higher up by the one that hired the line up. She's basically the gatekeeper, not the decision maker.

which was?? you mean smyth?

what a chance to capitalize on 'rko's downfall!! will 'tkk go for it??

Dont think they have the talent they would need to do that. Outside of Severin they really dont make a dent.

and yet still manage to beat 'rko 25 -- 54 across the board!!

It would be interesting to actually see the 25-54s (and I guess they're summarized in the local papers;
hopefully they can run a chart). How about the fact that both 'RKO and 'TKK (among several other
prominent stations) are more lowly rated in the 12 +s (yes, I know; less important) than a certain
country station that just changed its freq? But then again I guess music tends to do better on the
whole than talk (for those who actually do still listen to radio and not mp3 players, satellite radio,
audiobooks...)

TKK doesn't beat RKO across the board. The last couple books I saw Winter 05 and Spring 06 and RKO was beating TKK from 9AM to 7PM, then 10P to Midnight. Savage was beating TKK until they moved his show. It's possible those number fell off the table in the last book but I doubt they're beating them in every slot.

during summer book 'tkk beat everybody at 'rko 25 -- 54 except howie beat 'tkk..

I must be mistaken then. I only looked at men 25-54 and perhaps I was mistaken, if so thanks for the correction.

I think if Severin could talk about something other than Bush (or his pathetic tries at being sexy) he might give Howie a run for his money next year.

Could be ugly for Howie next year considering Severino is now live and local and can actually talk about local topics. Big difference from when he was talking about Boston from a barn studio in Sag Harbor.

Do you think he'll actually talk about local stuff, or does he see himself as too much of a 'global player'?

Who knows--yes, Severin did beat him in some ratings periods (though from what I've heard, the gang on
WEEI beats them both). Well competition can spur quality--"don't look back, someone could be gaining on you":
pressure from poss. of losing listeners to Jay could make Howie work hard to make sure he's still relevant.
I think he is, but that's just me.

>>RKO was beating TKK from 9AM to 7PM

what I had heard earlier was that RKO was doing good with Rush and Howie and not so good in the mornings.
As newspaper articles pointed out during the last DePetro debacle, HIS ratings were chopped in half--one
reason 'RKO wouldn't give him another chance.
