Fordham Football On WFUV

So I heard today's college football game between the Fordham Rams and Bucknell Bison on WFUV. The game was played at Fordham University's Jack Coffey Field in The Bronx, and it should be noted that the Rams were 9-0 going into today. And with Fordham fumbling the football away with less than a minute left, they were on the verge of being beat by Bucknell; the Bison's field goal attempt was blocked, and it was bedlam in the Bronx. Fordham remains undefeated at 10-0, a perfect 6-0 at home.

Then the postgame show would begin, but after a few minutes, they would ask listeners to listen via the Internet for the rest of the postgame show, so that WFUV could air "Mixed Bag." As someone who grew up listening to the late Pete Fornatale (original "Bag" host on WNEW-FM), I must ask: is Don McGee's music program that important that it has to bump coverage of what could be the most memorable football season in Fordham University's history? WFUV has three audio streams; why can't they just have "Bag" on the Internet until the Fordham Rams postgame is done? Does it have to do with music licensing? I can't imagine why a music show should have precedence over sports coverage, college or pro.

I'm wondering what's going to happen next week, when Fordham plays Lafayette in Easton, PA - it's a 3:30 PM start. Are they only going to air a quarter of the game and promptly turn it over to Don McGee at 4?

Fordham not only is 10-0, they're the only team in the *country* with ten wins.

Sagarin has them ranked # 117 in the nation.

And if six wins is the basic entry fee for a bowl game : There are 103 teams that are bowl-
eligible as of now, Sunday Nov 10.

That must be some upcoming programming meeting at WFUV. Lafayette has been playing
football for about 300 years, so you know they'll be primed to take a chunk.
Lotsa drama.
I say take a student vote, WFUV. A poll might be easier to arrange, and far easier to
gauge as far as the 'community interest' is concerned.

If Fordham wins, McGee can always do the halftime show at the Campbell's Soup Bowl.

It's important to keep in mind that WFUV for all intent and purpose is not programming itself as the college voice of Fordham, rather as a Tripple A station, with consultants and all. Trying to stay in format as much as possible especially given the recent changes, is probably more important to the station then Fordham football from a programming/branding prospective.
