So I heard today's college football game between the Fordham Rams and Bucknell Bison on WFUV. The game was played at Fordham University's Jack Coffey Field in The Bronx, and it should be noted that the Rams were 9-0 going into today. And with Fordham fumbling the football away with less than a minute left, they were on the verge of being beat by Bucknell; the Bison's field goal attempt was blocked, and it was bedlam in the Bronx. Fordham remains undefeated at 10-0, a perfect 6-0 at home.
Then the postgame show would begin, but after a few minutes, they would ask listeners to listen via the Internet for the rest of the postgame show, so that WFUV could air "Mixed Bag." As someone who grew up listening to the late Pete Fornatale (original "Bag" host on WNEW-FM), I must ask: is Don McGee's music program that important that it has to bump coverage of what could be the most memorable football season in Fordham University's history? WFUV has three audio streams; why can't they just have "Bag" on the Internet until the Fordham Rams postgame is done? Does it have to do with music licensing? I can't imagine why a music show should have precedence over sports coverage, college or pro.
I'm wondering what's going to happen next week, when Fordham plays Lafayette in Easton, PA - it's a 3:30 PM start. Are they only going to air a quarter of the game and promptly turn it over to Don McGee at 4?
