Forever's Johnstown purchase denied

Well, the FCC does look at petitions to deny yet!

I am quite shocked and amazed.

I am so happy to see that the FCC will still honor the rules and not let companies like a Forever, just do whatever they choose to do; whether it's good or not.

Owning multiple stations in a market may be something that is necessary nowadays; but, there should be room for small-market operators such as Dave Barger, Leroy Schrecongost, Mike Stapleford, etc. within our market area to make a go of it; without schenanigans being played out by companies such as Forever, CC, and others.

IF those stations aren't worth having in their six station limit for a market this size; then, they should attempt to sell to someone that does INDEED care about the communities that the licenses serve. Namely, Johnstown, Central City, Somerset, State College, University Park and Pleasant Gap.

Not necessarily to sell to it's competition within their market (or non-market) area. But, to someone that could do something worthwhile that WOULD serve the public interest at heart.

Though, they have the right to sell to whomever they wish to; keep the stations that they wish to keep and find another viable company that can be a good broadcaster to a community.

I commend Vernal, Sounds Good and Sherlock Broadcasting for standing UP to the behemoths like Forever.

DISCLAIMER: I have never worked for either Vernal, Sounds Good, Sherlock Broadcasting or Forever Broadcasting in my lengthy career.

Of course, all Forever has to do is find a "shill" company to hold the license and then LMA the stations. Voila! Instant megalopoly. It's like a bar I know of that kept losing its liquor license for serving to minors. (this is back in the 80s). The guy put the license in the name of his wife. mother, sister, brother-in-law, cousin...until he finally ran out of relatives. Then he (allegedly) burned it down, took the money and sold the lot to Rite Aid.

The shill is called 2510, owned by a guy who is a partner/employee of Forever's principals in other radio companies. LMAs don't work in this situation--they count against the cap, and Forever is at the limit. But the 2510 ploy is perfectly legal--and just as effective. Between the legal six, the shill three, and the big signal from the market next door (98.1) they control 10 radio stations--66 percent more than the cap allows. And isn't skirting the rules what America is really all about?

They did the same with WPRR Kirby's Daughter was fronted the moneybought WPRR told everyone that she wasn't going to sell to forever then three yrs later she sold it back to her Dad. And Forever scewed that landmark station and turned it into HOTT 100 which just sucks Major Ba**s. Soon Forever might by up all the State College stations their plan might be find a station that's in over their head when it comes to money (robbing Peter to pay Paul) and a station that's in direct compitition to their golden Frog. Hmmm I think state college may just have station like that
