Forget Requests on 60s unless....

This morning I was listening to Plash Phelps on the 60s channel. One of his callers requested "Summer Rain" by Johnny Rivers. He said stick around it will be played on the next show in 2 hours at 12:34PM.
Nice to know that they're flexible.

One time i made a request on SUITE 62 and i listenend 3 hours IT STILL WASNT PLAYED!!!!

They have always sucked at playing requests!!

Phlash still plays every song that i request and it never takes more than 20 minutes......I guess you've just got to know how to reach him.....lol...

Or maybe because that song was in the computer for 2 hours later he didn't want to play it.

I'm waiting for someone to request "Walking My Cat Named
Dog" by Norma Tanega or "Hamburg" by Procol Harem, that will be a true test as to whether or not they are playing requests. Both of these obscure songs were on channel 6 prior to November of last year, when it seems they shortened the playlist considerably.

I've been noticing more and more requests where the person will just ask for a song by the "Beatles', "Supremes",Rolling Stones etc; it's almost as though they have been prompted not to get too specific when making a request.

Or maybe they're not airing all the calls.

Bingo! The '60s on 6 playlist has been tightened to about 500 songs. The jocks are no longer allowed to honor requests for songs that aren't, in the words of Jon Zellner, "100 percent familiar" to all oldies listeners. Terry Young was telling callers, on air, "We don't have that one" when they would request "obscure" titles that had been played just six months previous, but those callers no longer get on the air, only the ones who want to hear "Monday Monday" or "Happy Together" or "Brown Eyed Girl."

I recently called Terry Young to request "Three Window Coupe" by the Rip Chords (a song he had played on his show prior to Sirius taking over), he said "I don't have it". When I reminded him he used to play it on his show months back and that I'd really like to hear it again, he confirmed he hasn't been able to play songs like that since the merger was completed. So, coupling the aforementioned experience with the fact that the channel has become repetitious in nature, it's my opinion Sirius has really fd up this channel (along with others)! Very disappointing, especially since I have been a subscriber for seven years and remember how great XM used to be! I may end up ultimately dropping my account after all.

Can they play "Spirit In the Sky" or "Stand By Me" anymore often than they do now?

If this is true, then satellite IS dead. "Oldies" is a format designed by testers and consultants. It was programmed to an audience different from those of us who want to hear Top 40 music from a specific era. THAT'S what satellite did best, before the merger.

Thanks for yet another reminder why I've turned down all their upselling and pitches to commit to more than one-month-at-a-time billing. And on top of the music channels being dumbed down, the audio quality still sucks. Now that I can play streaming radio in the car via I-phone, the only reason I keep my subscription going is because Mrs. Cyberdad likes the Oprah channel.
