Forgotten Network/Syndicated TV Shows of the Past

The Byron Allen Show (syndicated, 1989)

Interesting. Was this just interviews, similar to today's weekend filler "Entertainers"? Looks like it was WAY before the Entertainment Studios weekend filler stuff.

I thought his late-'80s/early-'90s talk show was more of a traditional late-night show. Think Arsenio Hall's show with an Entertainment Studios budget.

A couple more "lost syndicated shows":

Coast Guard (1995): Following the men and women of the lowest-profile of the Armed Services
Weird TV (1995): A hodgepodge of nonsensical stuff and counter-culture. Shadoe Stevens (former L.A. DJ and current voice of the "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson") was a regular on this show.
Scratch (1991): Teen magazine show produced out of KXTV in Sacramento, but syndicated across the country.

I've got plenty...

Syndicated:

Beach Patrol
Top Cops
LAPD: Life On The Beat

(the above all Cops-style shows)

Richard Simmons: Dreammaker (Talk Show where Mr. Simmons makes dreams come true).
The Ainsley Harriott Show (Talk/Cooking show)
Pensacola: Wings Of Gold (Drama)

The Lazarus Man, starred Robert Urich. Ran from Jan 1996 to Nov 1996. Cancelled due to Urich's diagnosis of synovial cell sarcoma. Urich lived for another 6 years.

Nowhere Man, 1995-1996, on UPN. Starred Bruce Greenwood.

Loved both these shows.

Of course, the show that started it all for him, "The Richard Simmons Show", should also be included -- that series has not been seen since the mid-1980s.

Fibber McGee and Molly (NBC) in 1959-60..Based on the 1935-59 Radio series of the same name..Jim Jordan (Fibber) and Marian Jordan (Molly) did a pilot for sponsor Johnson's Wax that 1949 that did'nt sell..NBC eventually bought the rights to the series. The Jordans did'nt think that the show translated well to television so they declined to do the TV series..

NBC decided to do the Series without The Jordans..Bob Sweeney and Cathy Lewis, two very capable comedy actors were cast as Fibber and Molly, but without the Jordan's writer, Don Quinn the show ws just another late 50's bland sitcom..Scheduled Tuesday Nights at 8:30 the show bombed and was gone by January 17, 1960. Except for a few months on NBC's late afternoon lineup, the show hasnt been seen in syndication. There are 5 episodes in the Internet Archive.

Speaking of WB and UPN:

Shasta McNasty (Jake Busey comedy)
The Secret Diary Of Desmond Pfeiffer (possibly the worst show to ever air on network TV).
Gary And Mike (Claymation comedy)
Dilbert (animated)
Home Movies (animated, managed a second shot on Cartoon Network).
The Oblongs (same as above).
Savannah (Primetime soap).
Twilight Zone (Revival w Forrest Whitaker)
Seven Days (Sci-Fi series)
Three (WB Drama)
Love Boat: The Next Wave

Does anyone remember an early UPN show called "Legacy?" It starred Brett Cullen as a well-to-do Irish-American widower raising his family on his successful Kentucky horse ranch. The theme song was Loreena McKennitt's "Mummer's Dance." I believe some of the show was filmed at Tim Reid's studio in Central Virginia. "Legacy" was a good show, but as a western on UPN, it seemed destined to fail.

1.)Midnight Caller (NBC, 1988-91) Starring Gary Cole as ex-SFPD turned Radio Host Jack Killian. It's been a long time since I watched the whole show. I've got the promos on videotape, loved the promo music, I've memorized it on the guitar. Man, I wished they released it on DVD.

Watching Gary Cole in dramatic stuff like that and the miniseries "Fatal Vision" is sort of like watching Leslie Nielsen in his pre-"Airplane!" dramas, in that we now associate Cole with comedies like "Office Space" and the Brady Bunch movies.

Also--I just looked over all the posts and didn't see anything for "Sports Challenge"!

I don't. Comedy aside, Cole is a versatile actor that (IMO) should be more famous than he is. He is great at dramatic roles, especially villains. He places a great creep or psycho.

Let's Make a Deal (the 2003 version) with Billy Bush. 3 episodes. Had stupid stunts, but was much different from the version we have now. Good show, was actually called a reality show by NBC, but got canceled because of American Idol.

Some more:

Soap World (syndicated, 1982), which was quickly forgotten the moment King World snapped up the distribution rights to nighttime Wheel of Fortune!
Strange Paradise (syndicated, 1969), aka Dark Shadows on Acid
Strange Universe (syndicated, 1996), a paranormal magazine show
Under One Roof (the reality series, UPN, 2002)
Under One Roof (the drama series, CBS, 1995)
Big Deal (Fox, 1996), Fox's Let's Make a Deal ripoff
The Gordon Elliott Show (syndicated, 1996)
The New Show (NBC, 1984), produced by Lorne Michaels during the Dick Ebersol era of SNL (Lorne would return to his creation the following year)
Bless This House (CBS, 1995), starring Andrew "Dice" Clay
American Journal (syndicated, 1993)
College Mad House (syndicated, 1989), the weekly spinoff of Fun House hosted by future Oscar nominee Greg Kinnear (had he won, this would've been in the "Oscar Winners Starring in TV Series" thread!)

There was also the magazine shows:
Day One (ABC, 1993)
Expose` and Real Life with Jane Pauley (NBC, 1990)
Front Page, Fox Files, and The Pulse (Fox; 1993, 1999, and 2002 respectively)
Street Stories with Ed Bradley (CBS, 1992)

And of course, the one show that's already been forgotten, unless they show it again on the upcoming WWE Network next year...
THE XFL!!!!! (NBC/UPN/Spike TV, 2001)

American Journal aired for a few years in syndication, but having other similar shows like Inside Edition and Hard Copy on dosen't really work...

Gordon Elliott was syndicated for two or three years...more like "slightly forgotten".
