Forgotten Network/Syndicated TV Shows of the Past

I think the town that took the name "Truth Or Consequences" has taken back it's original name. Please correct me if I'm wrong ('natch :p).

Believe it or not, the Wikipedia entry for the town indicates that it's still Truth or Consequences. They even have a pic of a 2012 postmark from the town.

Now, Dogpatch, AR went back to its original name after the Dogpatch USA theme park in the town closed.

You want to talk about really forgotten soaps...how about:

The Clear Horizon (CBS, 1960), the first ever West Coast soap (and at CBS Television City nonetheless)
Morning Star (NBC, 1965), which debuted around the same time as Days Of Our Lives
The Young Marrieds and Never Too Young (ABC, 1964 and 1966 respectively)

And even its official website says it's still T or C:

Regis Philbin has his share of forgetful clunkers, and it wasn't just The Neighbors.

First, That Regis Philbin Show (syndicated, 1964), Regis's first national talk show. According to the A&E Biography, it was scripted and taped two weeks in advance of its initial airdate, which was why even in some markets, Reege fell victim to Johnny Carson (his network competition) in the ratings.

Then there was The Regis Philbin Show (NBC, 1981) in the daytime; what doomed it for Regis? It was scripted, a half-hour long, and it was taped! It didn't help that The Price Is Right, Family Feud, and even Hour Magazine (in some areas) were already crushing him ratingswise, but that would be followed up by...

Regis Philbin's Health Styles (Lifetime, 1982), which became Regis Philbin's Life Styles after he got the WABC-TV "Morning Show" job. The Lifetime show was canceled in 1988 after The Morning Show went national and became "Live!"

That, plus Health Styles / Life Styles was scripted, a half-hour long, and taped.

How about The Fisher Family from the 1950's and 1960's? It was a dramatic show with religious themes similar to This Is The Life. I don't believe it has been seen anywhere since the show ended years ago.

And I do remember Insight, the religious show. Several actors who would become famous years later appeared on Insight like Martin Sheen, James MacArthur and Richard Dreyfuss. I think Bob Newhart and a few other famous people that weren't newcomers also appeared.

BUT...Regis was also a producer on that show, meaning some control.

"Never Too Young"...I never saw it, but it had grown-ups Tony Dow and Tommy Rettig as stars!

I think soap fans over a certain age would remember "Search" with great fondness.

How about "The Secret Storm" which ran from 1954 until 1974. Has that ever been shown on the soaper rerun network?
Joe
Yep!.....I remember "Search for Tomorrow" (well...the opening theme and visuals, anyway).

Wasn't Search's opening & closing theme a melodramatic pump organ piece popularized by radio soaps of a half generation earlier?

I should clarify that Regis Philbin's Lifetime show would later become "The Regis Philbin Show" (should've been "The New Regis Philbin Show" after the old one flopped on NBC) with the very same announcer that would carry over to his nationally syndicated show: Tony Pigg.

The David Letterman Show (NBC 1980) it replaced High Rollers, Hollywood Squares, and Chain Reaction.

Charlie and Company

USA Today the TV show

Richard Simmons: Dreammaker (Talk Show where Mr. Simmons makes dreams come true).

Of course, the show that started it all for him, "The Richard Simmons Show", should also be included -- that series has not been seen since the mid-1980s.

I think RS was on a soaper (can't remember...was it "Day's Of Our Lives") before he got his exercise show. I think he was well known in Hollywood for having a work out studio.

By the way, I loved "Dreammaker". He had a very cool classic T-Bird and I thought the show was entertaining.

Some more:
The Gordon Elliott Show (syndicated, 1996)
Is it just me, or is Gordon Elliott one of the smarmiest MC's ever to grace a television screen. I really just disliked him. Or maybe it was too much Australian in his approach. Whadda think?

If "Championship Bridge" is here, let's mention "Celebrity Bowling"---although it ran 6 years in the 70s & one year in the 80s.

Who doesn't wanna see stars rolling bowling balls in the gutter constantly? :) *

[*I saw an episode where two stars from "The Mod Squad" bowled a 266, thereby winning a car for the gal in the audience that they were playing for. Seems to me that they were never invited again. Later episodes awarded only a trip as the grand prize, and I'm not sure if even THAT was won. Anyone feel free to correct me if they were a CB fan.]

BTW there was also "Celebrity Tennis", and I think I saw in a Canadian TV Guide---get this---"Celebrity Wrestling." Anyone know about that one?

Listen Up! (CBS, 2004-05) Sitcom that lasted one season with Jason Alexander (populary known as George Costanza on Seinfeld).
-crainbebo

Jason Alexander did another show while also working fulltime on Seinfeld?
