Format Change at WDRC-FM?

Does Jerry Kristafer's return to WDRC-FM presage a significant format change at the station? As stated in the New Haven Advocate article, "Kristafer calls himself a "conservative independent."

The article also states, "in July, his show became a single-issue soapbox and Kristafer became the public face of Connecticut's anti-illegal immigrant movement."

The guy is no longer a "DJ", he's a political talk-show host. The word in the Courant article is that the show will be a 50-50 mix of talk and music. Political talk and Oldies? Doesn't sound right to me.

Could the station be taking the first steps in an evolution to a full-talk format including feeds from the Buckley owned WOR network?

Why? They already have the Buckley owned WOR feeds on the 4 station WDRC AM Network known as the talk of CT - WDRC Hartford, WWCO Waterbury, WSNG Torrington, and WMMW in Meriden.

What sort of music DOES sound right with political talk? I have a feeling it won't be Tropical or Regional Mexican. :p

Maybe it will be "Eve of Destruction," "In the Year 2525," "War," "Papa Was A Rolling Stone," "Love Child," "Turn Turn Turn," -- there's the first six in "Hot Rotation." I'm sure that there are another 494 others ...

DRC-FM already plays five of those six, minus any political talk. And "Ohio," "Get Together," "Put a Little Love in Your Heart" and "Sweet Cherry Wine" (Tommy James' attempt at a war protest song) too. Somehow, I don't think any of them would work on a conservative's show.

I just can't see music and serious talk coexisting on a radio show. I know John and MaryAnne would carve out four- or five-minute segments to take calls from listeners about some topic, but the topic was almost always light. Often, it was just a glorified trivia contest with all the incorrect guesses put on the air. I'm assuming DRC has something more substantial in mind for Jerry when he returns. I'm very curious to see how music -- any kind of music -- fits in.

I'm a bit doubtful as to whether a music/talk mix format would work at a station like DRC- FM, also, to be honest. But, let's wait to see what January 15 brings, and give it a fair evaluation, before we rip the idea to shreds, ok? :)

If previous posts that eluded to inproved audio quality come true I'd start listening to DRC-FM with frequency. Jerry's return would be the icing on the cake.

Why does Jerry's move back to DRC-FM signal a change to TALK?

What ever he did on CC's WELI as a talk guy doesn't mean that he's unworthy to be a good oldies classic hits morning guy.
