Format Change for KOCD?

I came home from vacation to discover that KOCD has flipped formats. I had noticed recently that they were no longer using the same satellite feed, and were becoming more of a soft AC station with jazz thrown in, but this is a complete format change. Their moniker is “Oklahoma’s New 103.7 — Building the playlist you’ve always wanted.

I knew something was wrong when “Here I Go Again” by Whitesnake was the song I heard when I first tuned in this evening.

It looks like right now it has elements of a soft AC blended with the urban / smooth jazz crossover artists they may have played before. Curiously, the regularly updating playlists on the front page don't seem to match what they're playing... not sure what's up with that...

Sad to see another smooth jazz station fold.. it was nice to know it was there...

(They're doing a CBS news update at 10:25 pm on a Friday night! Curious...)

Tim Howard is listed as part of the on-air staff... it looks to me a little like the former "Hollywood" Howard from Z104.5's top 40 days... anybody know?

"The iTunes on your radio" is a slogan they just used... so I guess it's a variation on the Jack / Bob / Bill / Mark / Suzy / Katherine / whatever type format. "The new version of FM," they're calling it. Also heard "Getting it said for Oklahoma." Really????

Scrolling on their website are the words, "A CHANGE IS GONNA COME..." which could be leftover from before the format change.

...dang. I'm already bored with them. Let me know if they do anything interesting...

EDIT: O.K., THIS is odd. The AC stuff they've been playing has been streaming in MONO. I thought it was the stream. Now, out of stopset they're playing a (I think) .38 Special moderate rocker I don't recognize... and it's in GORGEOUS stereo. WTH?

Also, the lady we're hearing do sweepers reminds me of Gwen Freeman.
 
I don't think it matters if they play jazz or Whitesnake or have live jocks.....the signal is almost nonexistent in OKC. Those few times I travel I-40 east, it's nice to have, but other than that.....

They are no longer using this network. They did use this network for the last few months. They even used the moniker "Music that makes you feel good." Take a few minutes to listen and you will see that this is a significant change.

I am afraid they lost a listener with this swap, as I can catch their current lineup of music on local stations. I listened to them before because there was no local FM jazz outlet, outside of certain times during the week on KGOU.

Okay, I didn't know. Haven't listen lately to KOCD lately. I'm probably like you, as I won't be listening anymore either. I'm more of a jazz fan than what they are playing now.
 
It seems like they've lost what little appeal they had for listeners to try to get them through the signal muck. They are about 3/4 of a radio staton in Tulsa and about an 1/8 in the OKC metro. Without some unique format, they are pissing up a rope. I agree that most everything they currently play is available elsewhere, and almost packaged the same too. (KBEZ) I see no incentive to trying to listen to them. Maybe Smooth Jazz was a dying unsellable breed, but at least another unique format might make more sense that what they chose. It seems glaringly obvious to me that simply doing a low-budget AC similar to KMGL in OKC for the Tulsa market to replace KBEZ would have been the best choice.
 
The midday guy is no less than Tim "Hollywood" Howard, who from Z104.5 joined our gang at K95.5FM. Had a lot of fun working with Tim in the 90s.
 
Ahhhh Z 104.5.. Now there was a station back in the day! Too bad they didn't go that route. KBRU in OKC is a good example of how that format could work for a Tulsa station. Oh well... more variety hits anyone... anyone... anyone!?
 
KBRU isn't too bad, save the typical overrepetition; but they've gotten a few goodies out of mothballs. Almost everything they play got played on the KATT back in its day (including Duran Duran, Frida, Eurythmics, etc.), except for the strikingly-weird choice of Sly Fox' Let's Go All The Way!

Don't forget that he also worked at KOOL 106 in-between his stints at Z-104.5 and K 95 FM!

It looks like KOCD has also hired John Hart. I wonder if he's the same John Hart who was at KRAV for quite some time?

Then that must mean that The Brew and GenX are probably both being programmed by somebody out of CC Tulsa! :p
 
Brew in OKC is Programed by Tom Travis and Gen X tulsa is Programed by someone up there. The Brew here has a good feel and flow to it. Pretty darn good I must say!

Is Gen-X still programmed by JJ McLovin (who is suddenly missing from night jock duties at The Beat)?
 
I wonder if anyone in Oklahoma will ever try Triple A. It's a good format for a weaker signal and attracts good adult demos. To my knowledge, Oklahoma's never had an AAA outlet, apart from the daytime version of KSPI Stillwater at times (back when Hugh Foley was on, you'd hear everything from the Stones to Lunar Drive to the Bottle Rockets.)
 
Wasn't "The X 101.5" (KMRX Collinsville, now Clear Channel owned Spanish KIZS) AAA?
 
KMRX was as best I can classify it a sort of adult modern - modern AC. It leaned retro alt, then threw in more modern and harder material as time went on.

I do remember they had shows like X Posure and the 10'oclock News that delved into a lot of interesting music. Sometimes they'd pull out really cool stuff.

To this day, I would give anything for playlists for those shows. In particular, they played a song by a band I think was british and it had some lyric about looking down at the street below, and possibly jumping out the window.. male vocal. Anyways. I vividly remember listening to KMRX but it was more of an adult modern rocker than a traditional "triple A."
