Format Change Happening at 93.3 on Friday at Noon

Being a former radio sales person, the question has to asked....How well will advertisers buy that demo? I just bring that up for discussion. I think the format is a good idea, They could play oldies that 96.7 and KLUV are not playing.

I think it will be CHR/Top 40 like their sister stations WRWM & WNFN.

Whatever it becomes, this is one of the best stunts in a long time, imo.

"It could be ANYTHING!!" - Ralphie's dad opening the box marked "FRAGILE" in A Christmas Story.

I enjoyed 'Quality Rock'. Actually the only FM station I listened to other than KTCU. Finally a format that appealed to me. So no suprise that it is now gone.

IMHO, one of the big probs is that I'm not sure how many people were even aware of that format. I never saw any adverts (TV, Billboards, bumperstickers, etc.) I would not have know about it except for this board here. Seems like they quit the game in the 1st inning.

So far The Ticket is not moving to 93.3. There is no request for KTCK-FM accordding to the FCC website. Now thats not to say that Cumulus could not put them there after the flip.

The Flashback thing they do on Sunday morning will be gone too after tommorow.

Cost to register two domain names: $20
Watching every Sherlock Holmes in the market over-analyze two phony domain names: Priceless.

Seriously - the level to which this subject has been scrutinized is amazing. I think it's going to be Malawian Disco.

I wonder what'll happen with this NEXT flip

Dunno. With the current financial situation at Cumulus, even $20 is a big deal. That's the cost of one PT board op furloughed for one day. :0

Really, does any radio group put any real effort into hyping format flips and making changes anymore? It's all in a beancounter's day's work. Yeah, you can get some attention with stunting, but it's not like the formatics of the eventual format will be anything to celebrate or write home about...more voicetracking, less localism, and, of course, it'll be a copycat of some other existing mediocre format in the market. (I'm betting on something suspiciously close to Jack-FM, that will be jockless. Not many formats out there that Scott "Chulo" Gaines couldn't handle...Why else would you let him go?)

Sorry for being a cynic, but I've seen it all before, ad nauseum.

Might as well move KLIF-AM to the FM side instead, and sell one-hour infomercials on the AM side 24/7. With the low placement on the AM band, and decent day and night coverage, they could probably pull in $2000 an hour and make a hell of a lot more money than trying to peddle 30 second spots on some talk show that's lost in the AM news/talk fray. Hell, forget the "old" KLIF allusions...bring back WFAA-AM!! (and I don't mean the "Newstalk 57" one...go for yesterday's Top 40 and perhaps a little "57 Nostalgia Place" with Bud Buschardt.)

I'll go for that! But no, no one's called (and I could sure use the $$$ right now.) Then again, I always thought former Bone PD Gary Thompson was mining my Retro Radio playlist last summer. Too many deep "lost classics" that we played, and then suddenly the Bone was playing the very same ones. But that's ok, the music never made any ratings blip anyway for either station!

Did you see the Kung Pao launch in Norfolk or the Stripper Music flip in Denver? Historic. Cumulus? What a bunch of boneheads. They'll flip. It'll be CHR. No one will care. New format by St. Patricks Day.

I have no line on what the format's going to be, but paleeeeze...a competitor for Kiss-FM? Remember how well that worked when Y-95 took on The Eagle?

Actually, Y-95 did very well when taking on the Eagle. While the Eagle technically won more books when both of them were in existence, that doesn't really tell the whole story. After 106.1 Kiss FM's original incarnation left the format, most of the Kiss listeners went to Y-95. In fact, Y-95 won 75% of the surveys after Kiss left the air and before becoming Power 95. The problem Y-95 had was that it was caught up in being a CHR when no one wanted to be a CHR and knew Dallas/Ft. Worth couldn't support two anymore. So, both stations, but especially Y-95, pulled out the stops to beat each other. They ended up upsetting their listeners, and both were out of the format in 18 months.

Probably a better comparison would be Wild 100 taking on Kiss. I'd be surprised if a Cumulus CHR could beat Kiss, even in its presently neutered state. Very few Cumulus CHR's are winning their battles. When I was competing against a Cumulus CHR 4 years ago, I had the distinction of working for one of only two stations getting clobbered by a Cumulus top-40!

I've got it: JUAN-FM. We sure need another Spanish station around here.

First 10 songs:
1. Feliz Navidad - Jose Feliciano
2. Light My Fire - Jose Feliciano
3. Eres Tu - Mocedades
4. Before the Next Teardrop Falls - Freddy Fender
5. Wasted Days and Wasted Nights - Freddy Fender
6. Feliz Navidad - Jose Feliciano
7. Theme from "Chico and the Man" - Jose Feliciano
8. Oye Como Va - Santana
9. La Bamba - Ritchie Valens
10. Light My Fire - Jose Feliciano

Lather, rinse and repeat. No, not a stunt. "A 300-song playlist was just too much of an investment," said Lew Dick E., head of Cumulus. "We'll just keep it around 8 or 10 songs. It'll work...I promise. Oh, and we don't plan ANY personnel changes."

about 95% sure that its going to CHR 2 in Dallas bring on the old skool battles!!!!!
