Maybe they [I-93] are trying to get the white folks. I have to admit I don't know much about todays music. If they don't play it on KKDA then I don't know it.

s/white folks/non-Hispanic white folks/
Hispanics come in all colors. :)

As for KKDA, presuming you mean Soul 73, if Arbitron ever assigns us PPM units, look for a *big* wobble in that book. The same old talking point repetition on WBAP is sending me down the dial a few kilocycles.

Yes I mean Soul 73. What I am trying to say is that I don't keep up with today's music scene. I am a old school type of guy. What we really need in this market is old school hip hop station. That would be on my portable radio all the time.

My children (15 and 17) like the new station. They specifally mentioned something about not having to listen to bath-time on Kraddick's radio show. I don't know what that means but it must be important to them. Evidently, Emma Kelly bath-time is annoying at best.

Random thoughts and observations...

1. Emma kelly is Kellie's daughter (IIRC), so I would guess that bath time is likely them talking about raising a child. And while there are some young mothers, I could see where a 15 or 17 year old wouldn't really be into parenting talk.

2. For all of you that said you won't be listening, would you listen to Kiss? If the answer is no, do you think they CARE that you're not going to listen? Bucwhyl and Salemjedi have pointed out repeatedly (and correctly) that this board skews white, and I'd guess it skews male and older. They probably care a lot more about those 15 and 17 year old girls, and their older sisters, than a bunch of message-board men...

3. Props to whoever pointed out (Might be over on the Observer blog) that stategically if this weakens Kiss, even a little, that helps KPLX and KTCK. I've never understood why some companies insist on competing with themselves, If KPLX leans 30-40 year old women, KDBN leans to 20-30 year old women, KYCK appears to 30-40 year old men and KLIF appeals to 50 year old men, they don't quite compete with themselves AS MUCH. (So yes, there may be some overlap, but not as much as some sister stations have)

4. Are some of the same people complaining about this station also the same ones who want to see more direct competition, like "back in the good old days"...If so, hypocritical at all to want one thing, then when you get it complaining about it?

5. FOr those that think it flipped too early, remember that with PPM's, we see how a station is doing EVERY WEEK. I've been told that Quality rock dropped a lot of listeners right away after they flipped, and kept shedding listeners every week since. If you're on a 12-16 week downward spiral, when would you pull out? How long do you give a failing show/station? Compare their 4 months to Ben and Skin getting what, about 6 months on the Fan? That station switched mid-december IIRC, and they've been gone a couple of months- Are we seeing a much shorter "leash" with PPM?

6. I missed the flip, but a couple of people said it was a produced couple of minute long intro- compare that to Quality Rock's debut, where thet started off with nothing but the regular guys from Atlanta and music at 9- quite the difference in 4 months in presentation...

7. I know some people at 'the mothership'. They say a program director is already there, John Something from Denver ( I think)

93.3 will remain dusty on my presets. Another repetitous "audio tone" hit station. May 2011- Gone.

Sounds like Kidd is gunning for the all important, three-member "Gene-n-Julie" audience. :D

YES!!! I think we'll see way more of this. Of course, you have promotional costs (well, some do) but this might even be a case in point of doing more "soft grand openings," to save those marketing $$$ until you see if the station's going to take off. (Yeah, right. No marketing = No listeners. I'm just taking a beancounter's POV.) Still, there's considerable cost in flipping formats (unless it's a cookie-cutter CC deal like "Mix," or a syndie "format"-type station ala ABCRN)...buying the music library, hiring new talent, bringing in a competent and knowledgeable PD, changing the building sign, printing up new business cards, updating the billing name on the Sparkletts invoice, etc.

I have to admit, the stunting and the extended intro were reminiscent of "THE OLD DAYS." Sounds like some thought actually went into it.

Inside the building where I work, you can easily get 1310 and 570, the two talk stations that I listen to the moston a portable radio.

But getting any FM is dicey. If KLIF moves completely out of AM, I may not may able to listen.... and that would be s-a-d.

I was wrong about the FM reception in my building.... I scanned the FM the other day, dial, and most FM stations come in allright.....

So whatever...
