Format change in Augusta

Was the station an “oldies” trying to be a classic rock for agency sales? Did they axe the staff to save money? If you let someone go before the end of the month you do not have to pay health insurance for the next month. Or just change satellite feeds? When the ratings come out will this be a logical move?

There was no staff. It started as "classic hits" (more like classic rock, IMO) in 2005 then eventually did evolve in to classic rock. I remember they did use those tags after the songs like WSPA in Greenville does, it was totally automated.

So, I don't see much of a gain here..."we play anything" hasn't shown much growth in most markets in recent years.

They flipped "The Drive" again??? Yeah, it was an oldies station, branded "Cool FM" when Beasley bought it. Then, they flipped it to Classic Hits "The Drive" and seemed to mirror Cox's WRVR-FM "The River" (which also skewed more AOR about the same time) here in Atlanta... without jocks, of course.

Since they flipped 98.3 from AC to CHR, there needs to be another AC to challenge WBBQ. Of course, you can argue BBQ having 100kW, but remember 105.7's is the other 100kW and they were a HORRIBLE AC station when Savannah Valley bought the station. Beasley's got some great people over there (mostly the old Savannah Valley folk that made Q great when Q was CHR).

93.9 could make a good run at it, but not with the "Bob/Jack/Pete/etc" format. One of the biggest complaints about radio stations that have no direction is just that: Too much randomness and no focus.

Just heard a bit of the "BOB-FM" stream. I know it's "We play everything...." But, c'mon.......LADY GAGA's "Bad Romance" segued into LOVERBOY's "Workin For The Weekend"? ::)

When I first heard about this new station, I assumed it would be like Atlanta's "92-9 Dave-FM". I honestly think "BOB" would do better as a straight up "AAA" format and NOT mix in stuff like GAGA that's already played so much on Beasley's CHR "HD-98.3".

Anyone else agree?

Maybe mixing like that gets them the best rates from ASCAP & BMI? Keeping those audience numbers down cuts costs, you see. ;)

Yeah, making it AAA like WZGC-FM in Atlanta would be able for them to keep their core listeners from the "Drive" days. Also, though, a flip to AC-Rhythmic like WWVA-FM The Groove (when it first flipped) would make it a good flanker for HD, IMO.
