Format Change: KMMM 1290 Pratt, KS

The station has dropped its Hot AC format and is running Local Radio Network's classic country format outside of the local DJ hosted classic country morning show. The station ID's as The mighty 1290 and will make reference to 96.7, 96.7 KSOB or Kansas Country 96.7 at times.

Listen for me as the overnight DJ 11pm to 5am central 7 days a week

Paul Walker

It's been that way for a few weeks. In fact, I heard the 96.7 by E-skip on 7/14 and 7/23. Did not hear you on the air, it would have been around 8:15P CT for the first log, and around 9:30P CT for the second log.
Someone needs to work on that station. The music presentation was terrible. Songs were skipping and stopping randomly, missing several seconds of lyrics. Please put a note into Rocking M to get it fixed (if they haven't already).
With all the Es DX I had this year (one of the greatest seasons ever for me), I still couldn't find Hits 106 in Laramie. Had KCGY this year a few times and KUWR pounded over KDNA on two occasions this summer...but no KLMI!

It has been several weeks. I used to be on 101.7 Lindsborg/Salina till Randy Michaels lease to Rocking M ended and it was sold to the cat-licks.

Congrats on the new gig. Hope you do well. :)

Not new for me per se, ive been with LRN for 5 years.. this is just a new affiliate

The station use to be country. It was country when I was in the region, where I'm from, in the late 70s.

All of these would be next to impossible at my location. But you'll recall when you mentioned that your show was on WATW on 1400 from Ashland Wisconsin. That was after I snagged it as a first time catch a few weeks back. To update....I've spent some time on 1400 since then. One morning, starting at 3:30am CST I spent an hour hanging out there. But so far no luck. In fact, as I've posted before, not much of anything breaks through the mess on 1400 at my location. (Unlike a couple of other gy channels). I'll keep after it, however.

I'm also on WTCH 960 Shawano, WI too :)

Paul, curious,
Are you on *any* stations in WA, OR, ID, or western MT? Most country stations around here are local or WW1 satellite, albeit KXLE uses a localized version of WW1 with Tad Svenson and other satellite DJs doing local weather forecasts every hour, occasionally a local event is highlighted as well. No locally-originating programming since the end of 2020, when Steve Scellick retired from the AM show.

Well then, you've got a nice chunk of the Wisconsin northwoods covered!

Seriously, WTCH isn't quite what I'd call even as much as a "semi-regular" at my location, but it's not exactly tough duty, either. I'll keep checking it. FWIW, I was on 1400 this morning a little after 4:30am CST. Radio oriented norfth-northwest. I did hear country musicvery briefly break through the graveyard slop. But too short a sample for anything beyond a small song fragment.

I made sure I know how to pronounce Shawano correctly too.. its not how its spelled. My boss at the network is from Green Bay

Got it. I've heard KNND in the past.

KNND was sold a few years ago to a blind guy who worked there and collects telephones.. pretty neat little operation.. also in a crimson/red colored barn/cabin like KSKO :)

I was on 960 for about a half hour this morning, starting around 4:20 am CST. The channel was a mess. No identifiable signals. EXCEPT at one point when country music rose to the top with a strong signal (Garth Brooks "Low Places"). Unfortunately, it lasted for what was probably less than a minute then vanished as quickly as it came. Very possibly WTCH, but no way I could ID it.

That is a song we play on the LRN classic country format, but i just checked my log and Garth brooks was in there twice this morning, but not that song at any point

Well, the other ones are in TN and MT and should be on flea power - one may have been on day pattern. I don't think KNEB NE runs country.

Hmmm....It was definitely Garth with "Low Places" (actually a favorite of mine). My next guess would be either one of the TN or MT stations on day power.

Back on the case this morning (apologies for one last veer)...

I dialed up 960 just before 4:30 am CST this morning and heard country music fading in and out with two other signals. Then at 4:32, the music stopped and I got a positive ID. WTCH. After that, two more songs, male vocals, which I couldn't identify, especially with the fading. Then right around 4:40 a song I recognized came to the top. "9 to 5 by Dolly Parton". Which faded before the song ended. The country music signal was weaker than the previous night, with conditions in gemeral also only fair at best. At the bottom of the hour, I did hear a voice, or voices, but I couldn't make out even so much a single word that was being said.

@cyberdad between 430 and 440 it wouldve been the nitty gritty dirt band mary chapin carpenter and wade hayes. Dolly Partons 9 to 5 was also WTCH, FYI
