Format Change: KZGL Becomes KKLD

First heard this during the 11 p.m. hour on July 31st, don't know when the change took place. KKLD is now on 95.9. I don't get Cottonwood's 98.3 well enough to know whether it's still on the air. I suppose KZGL could have moved to 105?

Here's Dave's post from July 28th...............

KKLD (98.3) and KZGL (95.9) will switch call letters, formats and frequency at 12:01am 7/31. KKLD will be on 95.9 and KZGL will be on 98.3.

Thanks, Dave. Sorry I missed that post, would have liked to have heard the change. Something like that deserves its own subject line, rather than being buried in a pre-existing thread about 103.9. Granted, there's a loose relationship, but since that thread wasn't interesting to me, burying the message made me (and possibly others) miss it.

It would have made more sense to simulcast the oldies format on both 95.9 and 98.3 for the time being, since the latter is moving closer to Phoenix and changing formats anyway. It's not good PR for stations to get listeners used to their new dial position, only to flip again weeks later.

Agreed. I would have never expected this scenario for the reason you state. Wonder if that may signal a longer delay for Power 98.3, specially since Bonneville has an LMA for the new owners to run Power 92 in the meantime anyway.

As a Sedona resident, I caught the change from 95.1 to 98.3, but now ALL I hear is that Power 98.3. Does anyone know what is going on? ???

In addition to that, (KZGL) the Eagle, 105.1 is calling itself The Canyon and playing "lite rock." I don't know who radio stations think lives up here, but it ain't that. ::)

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

98.3 was sold by Yavapai Broadcasting to 3-Point Media who is now selling it to another group. The transmitter was moved to Towers Mtn and the city of license is now Mayer. Before the exchange the formats and call letters were exchanged between KKLD (then 98.3) and KZGL (95.9) also a Yavapai station.

95.9 is now oldies and has upgraded from a C1 to a C0 on Mingus.

This transaction has left the market without a Rock station, which makes Grenax Broadcasting decision to switch "The Eagle" (Rock) to "The Canyon" (Light Rock?) curious.

This totally sucks! I actually considered moving from Prescott when my alternative rock station turned oldies and I couldn't find anything else on the FM band to listen to. The closest was some station playing Shakira and Justin Timberlake (eck). Then, I find the alternative rock station again on a different frequency two weeks later, am so HAPPY, then, it suddenly becomes a rap station...............This is just TERRIBLE. The Canyon is OK but I want my Pearl Jam and contemporary rock and roll back!!!
