Format Changes and it's your last show...

I only went through one format change and I stayed with the station so it was no big deal. At midnight we started playing country. It was so long ago I don't remember how we teased it.

With the flip to Sophie, did Dave and Jeff know?

Did they say anything?

Last I heard they were giving away tix and running voicers saying, promoting FMa talk radio.

I'm sure that the professional thing to do is to do the show as if nothing is happening, but it's got to be hard when you know that, after this shift, you're out of a job.

If it's the end of the gig, what's the incentive not to give away the forthcoming change?

Dave and Jeff did their last hour with the Program Director of free fm, but they were just doing the normal show and BSing. The last segment they just talked about what they were going to do on the weekend, and then when they signed off, instead of Dave saying his usual "See ya Monday", he said "It's been fun" and they played Don't Stop Believin' a la The Sopranos.

Classic ending for the boys who knew the party was over. Stay tuned, Dave and Jeff have been called from another station ....

Thanks!

So, on a related question, Sophie's running local and national spots.

Did the sales team sell spots for the new format (if so, how to keep the flip quiet) or are these old contracts that are being fulfilled under the new format?

Are some of them national contracts (i.e., on all CBS stations)?

Not sure what they did, but I remember when I jocked at a station that had just flipped that day to Top 40 we still ran spots were previously sold as a classic rock. Most of what we had were national spots, but a few were from the old station. We even had one or two that had the old station logo on them.

In the case of 103-7, I would guess that the sales reps, account reps, and advertisers were notified in advance of an impending switch (that's why its always the sales people on this board that know what's going to happen, but are just as tight lipped).

At one sports station that I worked at, it was actually an account manager that warned of a format flip if the station didn't begin to sell more spots.

I hear that KOGO needs some evening hosts....

Gee, I wonder who called them?

Interesting,
No sooner did I say that, then I read in SDRadio.net's latest column that they indeed were called by KOGO and will do a try out...

I guess it is predictable, huh?

To their credit, when Clear Channel took over the Califormula stations on May 17, 2002 at around 4pm, they did let me finish my 3-7pm shift on Hot Country 99.3 before going jockless. I was tempted to leave them with "Square Dance Rap" by Sir Mix-A-Lot and had it loaded into the computer but didn't. It would have been funny though.

Are you still in radio Harley Davidson? And do you know what ever happened to Mark the Hot Country PD after he departed?

Am I still in radio? Yes and no. I'm no longer on the air and I don't work for a radio station. After Hot Country 99.3, I returned home to Indiana and enrolled at Current Technologies Computer Learning Centers and earned some IT certifications. I then became Information Technology Director for Prairie Radio Communications, a group of 17 very small market radio stations in 4 states. I now work for Broadcast Electronics as a Digital Customer Service Engineer. My last regularly scheduled airshift was in 2005, doing weekends(voicetracked and for free I might add)for Prairie's then oldies station WBYS-AM in Canton, IL.

Mark recently returned to radio and is the morning talent at Movin' 97.5 in Phoenix.

On a side note, I don't know Laura Cain, but I wish her well on her journey into sobriety. I've been clean and sober for nearly 2 years now and it's been an amazing adventure.
