The station is currently off the air for major upgrades in STL transmission lines and studio equipment and computers. Should return next week when all equipment is operational

Format Changes for Houma

OK, but KXOR (LA 106.3) might play some of the same tracks that the new classic hits station on 1490 will play. So, wouldn't KXOR need to tweak its format from classic rock to perhaps mainstream rock? After all 106.3 KXOR has been playing more 90s alternative rock and more modern rock from the 2000s. I believe KXOR may also change to mainstream rock.

If There is an overlap might be late 70's-80's, but 1490 will be using the feed from westwood one. The range is from 60's-80's top 40 style like KJIN was back from 1971-1982. Before the station went silent for upgrades, they had the format on the air. I heard Music played that have not been on the radio in years. According to the station manager at My Home Team Media Houma is that KXOR's Music library is revolving to where more songs from the 2000+ are being added, but remember KXOR is a classic rock station, where KJIN is now a Classic hits (classic top-40) Oldies station. Yes there might be some overlap, but not enough to cause a conflict. I mean for example you won't hear any songs by Herb Alpert, Chuck Magione, Stevie Wonder, or Rupert Holmes on KXOR' but will be on KJIN.
LA 106-3 is a Classic Rock station. Never understood the purpose of a classic rock station in Houma/Thibodaux/Morgan City, as Eagle 98.1 comes in clear as a bell in this area.

OK, if KXOR is adding more modern rock from 2000 onward, couldn't the station succeed as a "mainstream rock" station? By definition, a "mainstream rock" station places roughly equal emphasis on both classic rock (primarily late 70s onward) and modern (new) rock. The key to success would be a proper blend of the two kinds of rock. K-Rock was a flop (and I couldn't listen to it) because it played all new rock and no classics. If mainstream rock, KXOR might play more of the "alternative" rock than "new" rock. KXOR should work to satisfy both kinds of listeners.

On the other hand, KXOR (LA 106.3) is (as Mr. Rousse said) evolving its playlist with more rock from 2000 onward. Personally, I think a true "mainstream" rock station would work well. Not all classic rock, not all new rock. Instead, a roughly 50/50 blend of both classic rock and new rock would work best. Again K-Rock was a flop because they only catered to new rock fans. My idea of a "good" mainstream rock station would include classic rock (mainly "hair bands") of the 80s, alternative rock of the 90s, modern rock from 2000 onward, and current rock. The idea is to be able to carry a show such as "LA Lloyd Rock Countdown" since it is an "affiliate-driven" countdown (in other words, chart is determined by affiliates). Just lose the 60s and early 70s classic rock (Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin, etc.). Those songs would likely appear on a Top 40 Classic Hits station. By the way, we have an alternative station on 106.1 The Underground out of New Orleans playing both old and new alternative rock. I like the 90s alternative lean idea, but let's also include 80s hard rock (especially hair bands). And I am still dying to find out "What's in Lou's MP3 Player?" on "Hard Drive".

I am glad to hear 1490 is flipping as for 106.3 it does need to be mainstream. The same old same old makes me change the station every time I turn it on. My tsl is about 7 seconds. Bayou keeps me with the b sides. Although there aren't many if them.

That's a good idea for 106.3 to have to switch to mainstream. 2000s rock is NOT my idea of classic rock! Of course, the bayou area hasn't had a good Top 40 station since Bayou 94. So, another possible option would be an alt-leaning Top 40 station (mix modern and new rock with Bieber, Selena, and Ariana)! Call it 106-3 the Buzz!
