FORMAT CHANGES IN QUEBEC

Corus will be flipping formats on 4 of their Quebec French language properties later this month. All 4 of these stations have recently been converted from AM to FM and are currently running News-Talk formats. On March 28th they will be taking on a Classic Hit-Oldies format patterned after CFOM 102.9 in Quebec City (also owned by Corus). The stations involved are:
CJRC 104.7 Gatineau (Ottawa)
CKRS 98.3 Saguenay (Chicoutimi)
CHLT 107.7 Sherbrooke
CHLN 106.9 Trois Rivieres.

So will it means that 98.5 PARLE-FM will be only News/Talk format in Quebec?

Will 98.5 become a classic Hits station and relocating news/talk program back to CKAC 730?

If I’m not mistaken, according to CRTC rules, in order to do news or talk on FM, you need permission from the CRTC. I’m guessing that’s something Corus didn’t want to do. It’s probably easier for them to just flip formats to music, as it is cheaper, and there is no government paperwork involved.
