JACK not only went up, they caused several stations to take a big ratings hit. Both Beasley's KSTJ and KKLZ went down. Lotus's KXPT and KOMP were hurt even more. The POINT's share was literally cut in half. It will be interesting to see if JACK stays strong OR ends up being a fad format. Will the stations JACK impacted rebound or not?
This was probably KOMPs worst book in their near 25 year rock history. I think they were being hit on both ends. Some of their upper end may have been sampling JACK. Their lower demos may have been listening more to KXTE who shifted in more of a rock direction. One thing KOMP has going for them is the departure of Stern on XTREME. My gut feeling tells me that many Stern listeners (the ones that don't get SIRIUS) will switch to KOMPs "Rock-N-Roll Morning Show".
99.3 KRGT (LA KALLE) also had a great first book, doubling it's share from it's previous Spanish AC format. Although it's still early it looks like KRGT hurt HOT 97.5 and not KLUC.
KQOL went up a share, KOOL especially did well at night.
Top 3 25-54 KWNR-KWID-KMXB
25-54 Mornngs KXTE(Stern)-KWNR-KMXB
25-54 Middays KWNR-KWID-KMXB
25-54 PM Drive KWNR-KMXB-KWID
25-54 Nights KWNR-KQOL-KXTE
Of course the landscape of the market has changed with Coyote Country and to a lesser extent (due to poor signal) AREA 108. It will be near impossible for KWNR to stay in double digits 25-54 with a direct competitor. But KWNR should stay relatively strong because they are so well established, the $10,000 giveaways should help too. COYOTE will go down 12+ from KJUL, but will certainly go up 25-54 because they had no 25-54 to begin with.
My prediction is that SUNNY will have the largest Summer-Fall gain, not that I'm going out on a limb with that, especially with the Christmas music that they will soon be playing.
