Format Flip at 1660/1410 AM?

I guess the FCC does not enforce its own rules. 1410's license was supposed to be turned in and cancelled when they put 1660 on the air. Never happened. Also 1660 used to put a good signal into the Sarasota area day and nite but I cant even hear it at nite anylonger. Signal has really deteriourated.

Are you sure it's 1410? I thought it was 1480 WVOI licensed to Marco Island that was the one to be given up.

I stand corrected, you are right. Thanks for jarring my memory. I always wondered how you could have a 1480 there and also one in Arcadia. Talk about short spacing. I remember 1410 years ago having a good country format WHEW, I think

1410 is/was WMYR...WHEW was 101.9 FM, its' sister (now WWGR). 1480/WVOI was the one that was supposed to be turned in. Never was so worried about the short spacing between the Marco and Arcadia 1480s as I was between 1480 in Marco and 1490 in Immokalee.

So now that we have an ABC format again on 1660 (like we did a few years ago with Stardust), is RI contributor Phil involved in some way again, and is the "Stereo" light coming on??

I wish I could remember Phil's last name. Seems like I remember he was an engineer at the old Big Ape 690 in Jax or was it WPDQ? I do remember he ran transmitter tests on a Sunday nite at the full 10kw (AKA a DX test) playing all kinds of cool oldies and taking phone calls from all over the US. Is his last name Beckman?
