as of wednesday, february 6, 2008, 93.3-fm philadelphia will be 93 jamz: philadelphias new home for blazin hip-hop and r&b.

i cant wait for the new format to launch. im really looking forward to having another place on the radio where i can hear good music.

What is your source of information? I started listening to FM radio when I was about 13 (1975), and WMMR has always been Classic Rock (I think)! John DeBella always did the Morning Show, and Pierre Robert puts the R in WMMR ;) Unless their ratings are really down, I do not know why they would change!

Thanks,
Stuart

Lies.

What a dweeb.

"I approved this message."

Smells like more compelling Kid Chris morning radio stuff - start a rumor on a radio message board frequented by dozens, to see if there is panic tomorrow, and if Michael Klein can do them a favor and print it in his column.

Man, P & S must be quaking in their shoes that this guy is going to bury them in the mornings with this awesome bit. Maybe they should just quit now!

Wishful thinking from the "I Hate Rock" coalition...

..this better be a joke....when i saw this on the ri home on the "popular topics of the last 3 hours" i nearly lost it... theres no way theyre going off a few months before their 40h birthday.

93.3 WMMR......Philadelphia......Everything That Rocks!!!!!!!

Yes, and YSP is bringing back the talk format. And to make up for MMR, PHI is flipping back to alt rock. Which means RFF will be reverting back to Sunny! Rejoice!

And I really doubt this is in any way related to Kidd Chris. Its a dope saying something "outlandish", which unfortunately got a lot of clicks and notice, which got it on the scrolley thing on the front page. Congratulations OP.

There have been many rumors on this board about outlandish flips that eventually happened. I'm not too big a fan of rock music, but I would hate to see MMR go and become yet another rap station.

This is silliness. Actually, I think that Philadelphia is pretty well served by most major formats at this point and should be pretty stable for a little while. The market's 2 urban contemporary signals are enough and everyone knows it. Nor is there any need for WMMR to go anywhere.

All that happened here is that "gMbRoDdA" got a 2 page thread buzzing about his drunken musings.

If anyone needs a new format it would be 106.1 not 93.3

what do you guys think they would change to? we got a good rock market...if it was going to be any kind of rock it would probably be classic rock to compete with MGK, but i doubt if anyone would open another rock station in philadelphia. we have way too much rap outlets, which is probably what it would turn into anyway.....country maybe??? who owns WXTU??? if it aint clear channel then country is a possibility... but i have no idea what they would even turn WISX into

never going to happen...but my dream format switch it for smooth jazz to return to 106.1, and have 97.5 back in trenton...and i dont think i need to go any further, you all get what im thinking....

If CC didn't own 106, I'd say flip it to news/talk. WPHT needs a competior and 990 just is not getting the job done. CC isn't hiring any people so if 106 were to go to news/talk it would be all syndicated.

it would be cheap to run

IIRC, Clear Channel does run a ton of country stations. Altho' talk would work as well. They could claim market exclusivity as syndicator, which would drive PHT to go live and local. Or, pick up the non-Salem NTP shows, should they decide to pull the plug on 990 as a talker.
