Format flip in Austin - tonight?

I'm hearing lots of chatter about a format
flip for KINV(La Invasora) from several sources
which indicate that they will be flipping to
the Adults Hits Format, Recuerdo tonight at
midnight (3/5/05).

What spanish-language or hispanic format will
KPEZ consider now that their Preciosa format
was trumped by Univision?

What will this do KHHL's market share? What other
BMP stations will be affected?

Will Oscar Rios stay on as program director for KINV?

This will get interesting.

There is always chatter about stations changing format.

There is no Intocable on Recuerdo. The Recuerdo "hour" starts at 55 with a 10 in a row.

4 to 10 AM is Pacorro & La India Edelmira, 7 to Midnight is Alfredo Contigo.

No, the target is adults 25-54, not a Class A FM and a daytime AM. KKLB has limited coverage and a limited playlist. In McAllen, 25-54 Recuerdo has a 13.3 in its first full month, to La Lupe and its 1.8.

'Recuerdo' Hits Austin

Regional Mexican KINV/Austin flipped to Oldies format "Recuerdo" this morning at 12am. The station joins the Recuerdo Network, programmed by Amalia González from KRCD & KRCV/Los Angeles.

The gold-based hits format targets a 25-54 demo and focuses on music from the 70s, 80s and 90s by artists like José José, Los Bukis, Joan Sebastian, Los Temerarios, Juan Gabriel and Vicente Fernández.

Predictions..anybody

Here are some possible scenarios on what Recuerdo's
impact may have in the Austin market based on what has
occured in other markets. For instance, the way KEGL
in Dallas may have affected KESS. Yes, "Preciosa" and
"Recuerdo" are programmed and marketed distinctively different.
But, it serves as a possible benchmark on how the two formats
affect other current-based regional mexican formats particularly
the upper demos of the aforementioned format. Here's what may
or may not happen:

1. Recuerdo shaves KHHL's upper demos and they start losing shares.

2. KPEZ has no other option but Reggaetón. But, then reconsider
when they discover that it may destroy KHFI.

3. KKLB still has bad market coverage.

4. KHHL announce their new program director - Oscar Rios.

C'mon let's have some fun...anyone else have any wacky predictions.

That is correct. There is no Intocable on Recuerdo but i
heard it around 11:58 pm and thought it was the last song
for La Invasora.

Re: Predictions..anybody

First of all, what makes you so sure that KPEZ won't continue with the Christian Hit Music format...I personally don't think it will go anywhere. However, I would love to see another form of rock station done correctly. I think some kind of a pure rock station could do some real damage to both KROX and KLBJ (especially in the morning when those two stations become talk). Clear Channel will never get it I guess.

I don't know. It's just conjecture. So, you'd like to see
an Active Rocker in Austin. KROX eliminated much of their
active rock titles when they stripped Melody Lee from her
programming duties. Lynn Lawless, KROX PD, does mid-days at KROX.
Maybe someone can grill him during his shift about their
programming mix. In the meantime, maybe you'd like to consider either of the following for KPEZ:

In other KROX related news, i read in the Austin Chronicle that
Ray "Raydog" Seggern - former K-NACK alum - will be hosting a new
Sunday morning show called "Chillville" which had it's premiere
this weekend. Did anybody listen to it? What is the show all about?
Who doesn't work for KROX who hasn't once worked at K-NACK?

I agree with you, I think Austin could use a decent rock station, they could also use a oldies station. Some of them stations are just a waste of signals.<P ID="signature">______________

Re: Predictions..anybody

KROX is a faltering station at best. Talent is totally lacking and the playlist is way too repetitive. I have always thought that since the demise of 107.7 The end (back a few years), KROX never really had any true competition. I think with KLBJ being primarily a classic rock station, there is some decent amount of room to go up against KROX with a much broader but still hard playlist. Damage could be done for sure.

Re: Predictions..anybody

Don't expect KPEZ to drop the Christian rock thing anytime soon....at least for a year. They are really jumping into it with both feet so even if it does falter, they will stick with it for awhile. I do agree that KROX is faltering....especially in the talent department. The jocks over there are awful. If somebody does go after the rock segment, don't kid yourself into thinking that they won't have a mostly talk morning show. It's par for the course on just about every successful rock station I've ever heard.

By the way, has anybody noticed that 105.9 has changed their music? Apparantly they are trying to match better with the crappy Kidd Kraddock morning show they are contractually stuck with. Sounds like KHFI's less popular little sister to me.

98.5FM is oldies. Not locally programmed but still locally received.
