Interesting this post happens now. I was having lunch at PF Changs last Monday and saw Mad Max from the old KZQ morning show talking with two high up radio managers. Humm....
I don't think Myrtle Beach can support 2 Urban AC stations. Q107.1 will never beat 98.5 KISS FM now that they are only Urban AC. Maybe Quantum should've went Urban. Didn't 107.1 flip to Urban AC when KISS was still in between Urban/UrbanAC and HOT 100 was CHR/Top 40? Another reason why I say Urban is beacuse COAST 97.3 out of Wilmington,NC always shows up in 12+ ratings.
I think AC is a no-brainer. Who has heard of a market that doesn't have an AC???? Granted, there are some, but not many. If any market would support it, seems Myrtle Beach could. 92.1 is Hot AC. WEZV is more easy listening/standards and does very well.
So....I say 107.1 goes AC. They've been going at Urban for a year now (odd timing!) and they are getting nowhere.
Didn't Myrtle Beach just get enough flips from Cumulus last year, now another one.
As for AC we had a sort lived one call YES 94.5 which sounded much like the old Sunny 96.9 from Charleston. But that didn't live long and now they are Movin 94.5 with a Rhythmic Oldies format.
Now about Q 107.1 I believe they are not doing good is because it is right in between the two country stations Gator and Coyote. Sure Q has Steve Harvey Mornings which does well in other markets.
I think The Surf may switch, but there would be a huge outcry by the beach music fans, as that is their station. That would be a good soft rock station.
I hope the guy above is right. Mad Max used to have the best morning show in Myrtle Beach! I would love to see him come back to some form of rock radio. I think its been almost 3 years since he was on KZQ. Myrtle Beach radio could use some local life. Has anybody heard anything about Mad Max coming back to mornings?
Ok, this sounds weird but I would LOVE it if Mad Max would come back. I agree, radio hasn't been the same since he and Special-K did mornings. I know Max is still around, (saw him at comedy club and doing a tv-33 thingy @broadway a few months ago) but what about K? Heard he was in rehab.
Mad Max was hosting that awful afternoon sports show on the Team until a few months ago. Don't even know if he's still with Cumulus. I like Max, but not working for a sports station. I believe he also still emcee's for the local comedy club. He's pretty good!
