I don't have the exact date, but it was March of '96. And as far as format changes, it was one of the wildest. For one week, it was a four way simulcast of KMPS . What caught my ear was the sound processing of 106.1 seemed unusually BAD....then the announcer informing everybody they were listening to KMPS. A truly WTF moment. Then, as a spot break was played on KMPS, a recorded announcement from Ichabod Caine would play on 106.1 and 1090 (something along the lines of "Hi, this is Ichabod Caine from Kickin' Country K-106 and you're probably wondering....Why are you hearing KMPS on K-106?....."
Like I said, it was a four way simulcast (heard on 1090, 1300, 94.1 and 106.1). The next week, 106.1 and 1090 were simulcasting 96.5 Young Country. Then a strange weekend of stunting with sound effects, each one running about 5 minutes and ending with a story on each one and the tag line "..and soon, you will know....." before launching into the new Rhythmic AC format.
The flip was about two weeks long and I once had tapes (they've long disappeared.)
