Most of you read that Entercom flipped it's FM talker to Country today (11/30). Hmmm, my comments have been that Entercom doesn't do Country (and thus, it'll never happen here)...

That said, shall we open the proverbial can o' worms here again and speculate on what format 94.1 might eventually end up doing? I mean, it IS December, a time for many flips around the nation. And, ironically, Seattle's 100.7 is KQBZ - The Buzz!

Or is this a bit premature to talk about the possible demise of the Buzz format?

Just a little pot-stirring from a former, disgruntled Buzz worker (just kiddin-- I was never disgruntled LOL). Just like giving birth, lets think baby names. Bear Country 94.1. Hot Country 94.1. Young Country Z-94. 94.1 Garth Country. Oh, how about this one... 94-1 HANK-FM.

And the winner for those in Mississippi... There was once a station known as WBUB... Bubba 107.5! In Charleston, SC back in 1992. Then owners Larry Farina and Charlie Bird Lindsey (Longtime crosstown WEZL DJs) must have had quite a sense of humor when they picked those calls!

I think this takes the "Entercom doesn't do country" argument and throws it right in the trash. They need something, and what they have now just isn't working. Besides, I think a country flanker may help WRVR better than what the Buzz gives them. Trend is out today, I would imagine if WMBZ doesn't close the gap a bit, they've got to be looking hard at doing it here.

Cash, Hank(both), Jerry Jeff, Hiatt...etc.

You get the picture.
Frontier Ranch Supply would be all over it for sponsorships.
The Beer agency ads would flow.
Nightclubs.
The remotes would be a hoot.
Tunica sponsor partnerships.

RIP Western Steakhouse and LOUNGE

Sadly, it's been bulldozed, but I have fond memories of the steaks, the circa-1962 decor, Elvis's buttprint in one of the upstairs booths. There was nothing quite like it, before or since.

IIRC, Eddie Bond used to play there on occasion...

I worked for Eddie years ago.

The steaks.. the beer.. the beer drinkin and singing.. and more beer..
I dont think I ever managed to visit on a Sat. night and not have a hangover the next day.

You guys are not alone with those thoughts. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever that this market could not be had by a well done Classic Country format. It's a no-brainer. It probably wouldn't touch top numbers but it would certainly be popular and extremely profitable. I'm a big fan of the music, but it's just too obvious an audience to ignore anymore.
But what the hell do I know????

I am at least 10 years below the 45+ demo, but I would listen. "Hank's Place" on XM is one of my favorites.

I can almost smell the musty old tavern with Ernest Tubb records playing on off nights. Somewhere in Fayette County...

I have many many great memories of T-Tommy's. It's the first place I would take anyone from out of town who wanted an AUTHENTIC Memphis experience. It was one of those things that could not be duplicated or imitated no matter how hard you tried. I especially remember those heart-stopping smothered taters! YUM!!<P ID="signature">______________

Steve my friend, it dosen't suprise me that your pushing for more redneck anthems in Memphis, and more directly on the Buzz.

Yes I and a few others remember that you were one of the few (if not only) holdover(s) when the Ridgeway boys fried that damn frog years back. Seems like you may not get it that country didn't work, and thus a great station called the Buzz came in. Yes they have had problems recently, such as not keeping good talent around, that pathetic Kraddrick show, and letting the computer run things without a jock, but with some good programming and marketing choices things could help the Buzz enhance it's sting.

Bottom line, don't give up on the Buzz yet.

P.S.: Hope your not freezing your ass off in Beantown, and at least I miss hearing you on FM100.
