Format for 106.9 in Louisville?

"Mix" would be fine if the station had been a "Mix" all along, but it is certainly too dated to use as a new brand in 2016. We've had our Mix 102 in the 90s, then the (mostly forgettable) Mix 103.9, but in 2016, it just seems like something old.
Personally I never saw a huge problem with the "Lite" name on 106.9. It didn't fit what the format had become, but it was part of their identity. Sort of like how 93.1 isn't an actual format about foxes, but is "The Fox" and it is a name that fits (maybe that is an extreme example). There are a lot of "Kiss FMs" out there, it sounds like it should be some sort of romantic format, but it isn't... and it fits. There is a certain religious based format out there with the name "Love" in it (I won't say it out loud because any time I do, it summons somebody in here who searches for every mention of the name of it to start a religious rant on me) that isn't actually about romance despite the name, but it fits too.
The bigger question though is whether Mix would even fit in at 106.9 if it wasn't dated. Mix still sounds more AC than Hot AC, while this Play (to me, at least) sounds more Hot AC or even close to CHR. I'm just wondering if this change means that they will more or less eliminate all of the 80s and most of the 90s stuff, in which case it would be more than just a name change, but also a format change.

I thought it would be interesting to share an aircheck after the change from "EZ 107" to "Lite 106.9" in June 1993.

Interesting to hear. Ez-107 to lite 106.9 was a necessary change. For ez was muzac not lite rock. But this change is necessary also. Lite is not what they have become in 2016.
Lite 106.9 Facebook page has been changed to 106.9 Play.

According to their Facebook page, someone asked and 106.9 Play said the same play list.
It's a different name. It's okay. Here in Lexington we have Mix 94.5 and has been branded that since 1993. They have become more of a Lite 94.5 with soft rock instead of AC. That playlist above is what they play.

JB.... It's NOT OK!!!! IT'S LAME, BORING & CHEAP Sounding!!! I understand and agree that the LITE name needed updating, but my initial review is not favorable.... Their going to end up like 100.5 MyFm....

Everyone is going to have an opinion on what is Lite. So if they became a CHR station, would they call it Forward 106.9? Playing off the "Rewind" branding.
I wonder if summit thought of bringing back the Louie name? I think that would have been smart having a Louisville reference in the name. But probably not they wanted to stick to a name they have been using. I find it fascinating how the ac format has evolved from Stevie wonder overjoyed in 1986 to livin on a prayer by bon jovi today. But I guess yesterdays office workers liked there music more mellow then today's office workers. Good luck 106.9
Way back in th day, I remember Lite 106.9 being played in my parents' car, and the playlist was much like HP posted. It always took me by surprise to hear Bon Jovi and Aerosmith on "Lite" I think the name change was a good idea, I just wonder if the Christmas music tradition will continue.
They haven't had any information on the personalities (aside from Jeff and MJ, of course) on their website in years. (here is something from September to see https://web.archive.org/web/20150905055227/http://www.lite1069.com/) So I don't think the website is really saying anything at all. In fact, when I first noticed the lack of on-air personalities listed on their website a year or so ago, I thought they had let everybody go back then and thought a chance was forthcoming, but nope, everybody was still there... they just didn't have that on the website.
I think the only problem with Louie on 106.9 is that Louie has been used twice already in recent history, and neither of those has been bigger than Lite 106.9. I wouldn't think they would want to go with a brand that has previously been used locally with less success than what they currently have.
To funny weneverknew. I can see it now "all your favorites at work so everybody can agree" then naughty by natures opp is played followed by yeah by usher and to top it off eminem slim shady. From Muzak bk in the day to light rock in the 90s to 80s 90s and today in 2016 all in a generation.
