As noted elsewhere, KBYU is classical for much of its broadcast day and has a killer signal. Other non-comms in the market also do some classical now and then.
99.5 used to be classic rock, so did "Z-93.3" at one time. The format has struggled from time to time. The 93.3 flip to country was something that I really didn't understand at the time and it was an unpopular move. Now, 10 years on, it looks like genius. Well, I suppose Arrow 103.5 is as about as close to a classic rocker as the market gets now - at least for classic rockers who prefer to play it safe. On the other hand, KBER probably satisfies the harder-edged classic rock fan.
But remember, Salt Lake is a demographically young market and - thanks to the culture - older demos seem to listen to FM-100 or Olides.
The format hole that I mentioned elsewhere is mainstream urban. It's so different from anything else (except maybe U92 - which is CHR/R) that it could pull some numbers, especially in the growing latino community and in the younger demos.
