A station that plays r&b oldies and rock'n'roll oldies from 1950 through the mid-'60s would have the market all to itself. A station that plays MOR hit singles from the late '40s through the early '80s would have the market all to itself. And David Eduardo will be quick to point out that such stations would attract older listeners and therefore would not be appealing to advertisers who covet the 18-to-49 age groups.

How about bringing back an all-heavy metal station like the old KNAC? And preferably on a decent signal. KNAC has been gone for almost twenty years and nothing has replaced it.

LA Radio Rewind, Steve I totally agree. There are more radio signals coming into Southern California than almost anyplace in the country and not one airs a 50's 60's oldies format. So many people over 55 who listen to radio who would love this....but if you are over 55 it doesn't matter. That's the way of the world. SiriusXM and Internet radio are the places to find this music. I'm glad we have that choice.

KNAC was fading when it ended in early 1995; it's last books were around a 1 share level. The interest in metal and hard rock has definitely not increased in the last 19 years, so such a format would be too old and the audience too small for it to be viable.

KJAZZ 88.1 on the FM dial has Johnny Magnus as well as programs dedicated to Frank Sinatra and others - has featured the older music styles for decades.

Perhaps signifiuantly it is a non-commercial station operated by Cal State Long Beach. I know nothing of its rating or signal strength. but it is a potential source of the kind of music you refer to. Problem is, how does the potential audience know it exists and can they find it? They seem to be pretty aggressive in their niche with the Simi Valley Cajun & Blues Music Festival on Memorial Day weekend followed by a Summer Benefit Concert at Walt Disney Concert Hall on June 28. Obviously they have a following, but what is the awareness level?

KKJZ (88.1), unless they have changed after I left, was a straight on Jazz station. Standards were reserved for Sunday mornings. Great Blues program on the weekends. But not even close to a Standards station.

Weekdays are definitely still jazz oriented with a little blues thrown in; standards are on the weekends, but they are there.

I know this is the LA board, not the SiriusXM one, but since it came up, I have to register my extreme disappointment at the snubbing the 40's on 4 has taken. Bad enough that it gets taken over every year by Christmas music, but to be replaced by a Billy Joel channel (!) for two months is really a slap in the face to geezers everywhere, and people like me who listen to their music. Now where am I to get my Duke, Ella, Billie and Dizzy fix? PO'd doesn't begin to describe it.

Yes. KKJZ-HD-2 (K-Jazz HD-2) is pretty much standards all the time. The HD-2 signal comes in very well from LAX and southward.
