I know they couldnt call it I-100 or WOKI anymore, and their wouldnt be a point in playing old songs of that era with Jack around. but could they use the HD-2 slot to maybe bring back the AAA format,,, the original River on WOKI was an excellent station. If not AAA they could put a current CHR on that slot, or maybe Dance Music.. The CHR here in indianapolis used to have Dance music on their HD-2 until a format and ownership change put talk, similar to Wnox on the powerful 93.1 signal, and the chr moved to new ownership, and a smaller signal, but kept the Radio-now brand....

Since Pirkle still owns the station, and has the HD rights, why couldn't he bring back I-100 on the HD channel?

Unless something has changed recently, Citadel has no plans to broadcast in HD anytime soon.

That's understood. But since they only have an LMA of 100.3, why couldn't Pirkle, who holds the HD rights and owns the station, bring back the format on the HD channel?

It would give me a reason to listen. That's for sure.

Unfortunately that's not reason enough. The problem with HD radio is that it doesn't make any money. Why would anyone spend any time developing a format for a medium that is making no money? And of course you know radio is all about the $$$$$!

That's a good question. I would say that if they were to do anything with their LMA'ed signals it would be not to make money but to keep themselves
in the local market ready to pounce if anything happened to their deals.

I am surprised that Citadel (which has a good set of lawyers) in the LMA for 100.3 would not have HD or SCA language in the contract. Someday the HD could be more important than the original signal. Then remember AM stereo. Who knows? Over the last couple of months there has been a lot of negative news about the financial heath of Citadel and a couple of other large media companies. I have a few sources in the financial world that believe there will be a gigantic “sale” of media properties as part of a major restructuring and or a new owner of these companies. One weird outcome, sometimes the first to file will come out stronger and end up acquiring competitors that have not had their balance sheet “cleansed” by the bankruptcy court. Some clusters will be sold to raise cash. Some clusters might be sold because the new owner or creditors already have stations in the same markets. I personally would keep the Knoxville cluster, but stranger things in radio have happened. Look for little to change programming wise unless there is some “outside” force. The outside force could be lawyers and creditors in less than a year. Unfortunately that will cost people jobs. My personal fix: I would like to see the FCC limit clusters to 3 stations per market (LMA’s included) and require at least 50% non syndicated programming. That could allow a little creativity and even let some entertainment back in the business, but that will never happen.

well the new river 106.1 at least gives us a hot ac choice and plays alot of music that WOKI played, and would play if it was still I-100.... The river is my favorite knox area station, I just wish their signal wasnt so spotty out east and south..... Pigeon forge has a similar station on 106.3 so they can upgrade or move to knox county.....
