I listened to 98.7 Simon some this weekend. Sounds like the format is now mostly 70`s/80`s Oldies, too heavy on the 1980`s for my tastes. But, the station sounds better than it did a few months ago. Is a change in the name and imaging coming soon??? "Simon 98.7 " sounds so Mid 2000`s. The imaging sounds horrible. Does anyone have any new info on this station?

According to GreatOldies WSJS, WMFR, WCOG, WZTK, Majic 94.1, and now 98.7 are all possibly making the switch to oldies.

Holy cow

Actually all of those station have been coming up lately in rumors about switching to Oldies. Actually, WMAG-FM 99.5 and Simon 98.7 HAVE recently increased their 1970`s and 80`s tunes and added even 1960`s tunes as well. However, it remains unclear who will take the full plunge first (but it WILL happen). WSJS is part of alot of Curtis-owned radio station rumors about switching to Oldies that also include stations in Greensboro and Burlington.

Dude if you stop talking about all them stations turning to oldies, the rumors will pretty much die out, if not completely.

rumors are raging...if we didn't post about rumors,
and only "talked" about what actually happened,
this would be a "who got fired" blog.

I already wrote that WSJS is doing TV commercials for their Talk format. Why would they do that if they were going to change to Oldies? Sorry, Dude, that makes NO sense at all.

Many people all over the Triad are questioning who will switch to Oldies here first.

Dear Good Times Great Oldies ..... PLEASE stop .... we need REAL info here .... not pipe dreams .... w/ as much as I PERSONALLY love OLDIES ... it is a format that has evolved in the TRIAD ..... I happen to enjoy the evolution .... so PLEASE stop all the rumors and TOTAL speculation so that PERHAPS people STILL IN the biz will continue to provide information here. Thanks.

I got no problem with discussing rumors, like you said if we waited for only facts then it would be boring.
But dang the only one I see talking over and over about the oldies rumors is the one who says "rumors persist" and asks about the rumors over and over.
At least spread a new rumor once in a while. Try something with some believability, instead of just rifling off a list of stations that "might turn to oldies" and making baseless assumptions about stations ["Majic might come back because their website is still up. There must be some plans" that kind of silly thing].

Well, it is much more than rumors when stations like 98.7 and WMAG-FM 99.5 are all leaning alot more towards Oldies now. Then, you got Tom Collins sending out new e-mails on the old Majic 94.1 e-mail system. Yes, alot more than rumors. It is just a question of what station and when it will happen. Also, WBRF-FM 98.1 out of Galax now playing some oldies... Nobody thought that would ever happen!

Well, here's a bit of REAL information. The FCC signed off today on the deal for Disney to sell now-dark WCOG to Crescent Media Group (Subsidiary corporation of Curtis Media Group). Consummation of the deal will likely take place before the end of the week, and when it does we should see some indication of the direction they're going to take the station in.

Later . . . .

If the ratings posted here are accurate I wouldn't look for 101.1 to change anytime soon. From the looks of things it seems they beat both WSJS and the new Rush radio in the winter book. You would have to think that makes them a non candidate for a switch to oldies.

Now the question is..... Will it be Oldies, Talk, or Spanish ;)

What information do you base 104.1 switching to Oldies? When is the change going to happen? Will some former Majic 94.1 jocks be joining the station?

I was wrong. Entercom is going to flip either WQMG or WJMH to Oldies. They weren't satisfied with the ratings on the last book. :D

Is is true that I hurrd that WMAG and WJMH and WCOG are going to trimulcast True Oldies Channel 24/7?
Except for Mike Harvey and Tom Kent and some 70s AT40s on the weekend?
And of course, Rod Davis gets his pick of shifts.

They're going to go with a complicated system of differentiated imaging for the stations since they're owned by different companies, and they thought it best that way. 99.5 is going to use a hot, sexy female voice to get their male numbers up. And 102.1 is going to use some countrified imaging left over from their BIG 102 days to draw listeners from "Reidsville, King, Clemmons, Browns Summit, Gibsonville, Parts Unknown, and The Outlying Rural Areas" [that's going to be added to their TOH ID]. 1320 is going to use Radio Disney's imaging services for their imaging, so they don't lose any traction on the 0-12 listener numbers. Kids will stick around through the oldies for the Brian O'Brian outtakes.

Just for spite, they're going to call them 99.5 The Gig, 102.1 The Gig, they've got the Gig service mark in NC, and they're talking about having the Gig who lacks a service mark to get his business cards reprinted. Just for spite. 1320 is going to go with Good Times and Great Oldies--1320 WCOG Part of Scott Shannon's True Oldies Network, if they can cram all that in before the tones cut them off. Engineers are working on the details. It may involve some level of TiVo or something.

Finally some real information on this board and not something made up by someone with too much time on their hands. I just can't wait to hear a great oldies format in this market again. I have been so depressed since Gig Hilton changed formats on 94.1, now I have a reason to go out and enjoy my miserable life again. This announcement should keep all these know it all people with years of experience quiet! I knew goodtimeandgreatoldies knew what he/she/it was talking about. I'm just going to Praise the Lord about this!
