Just Curious.

Is anyone doing a contemporary christian format in San Diego? It looks like KPRZ
is all talk and that's about all that I'm seeing.

Reason I ask is that my Wife and I will be moving back to SD in the fall of 09
so she can finish up her degree at SDSU and I'll be on the beach.

We are just about done with adoption on our second child and will be taking care
of them, so I am just looking for something part time.

I was a PD at a Country station in top 75 market for 10 years and interested in doing
Christian after building a on-line station for my Church.

I know the market is tight. I worked at KMJC as a button pusher when the station was
at the Daily Californian building in El Cajon. Went on to SDSU and interned in promotions
at 91-X back when they were on Pacific Highway and the studios we're in TJ.

Any thoughts?
 
KPRZ used to have a pretty good mix of Christian programming and talk back when Mark Larson was there, but even then it sounded like the only local station voices were basically board ops who read the occasional liner or weather forecast and it's hard to imagine they made anything more than McDonald's wages. Looking at the staff section on the website now again makes it look like they've got just a couple of programming department jobs that pay a living wage (of course that's getting to be true of lots of stations now). I think the only other station in the market with Christian programming runs the K-Love Christian Radio Network.

100.1 FM from Julian (the former KABIN FM). The group that owns KLOVE has a construction permit to put a translator FM in Oceanside/Carlsbad at 98.5 FM.

But isn't that one satellite fed? I don't think there are any local jobs there...

Yes David. The 100.1 Julian station, is nothing more than an satdish, and a transmitter. Educational Media Foundation did the same thing at KAIG-FM in Dodge City, KS. A big 100kw FMer that has no local presence.
 
Wow! Thanks for the feedback so far. I don't guess anyone in the market has thought about using a HD
stream to get some of these listeners. I understand what EMF is doing but I just really think that doing
something local even with a limited staff is better than people out of state. Sad to think the whole
"serving the public intrest as a public trustee" was thrown out the window.

Maybe someone will consider this as an option. If people knew that they could get a format like this
they might actually drop $100+ bucks on a HD Radio. So far what I've heard on HD has been nothing
special.

There's now a contemporary Christian music station in San Diego. It's called "The Crossing"...the Uplifting Alternative.

It's on KyXy 96.5's HD-2 channel.

You can also listen online at: http://thecrossingfm.com

And if you have an iPhone, you can listen on-the-go. Just install the free AOL Radio app and search by San Diego radio stations.

I see that the music director is the same guy who did such a poor job as MD for The Planet and probably some of the other ill-fated incarnations of 103.7.

I would assume The Crossing is computer programmed in the music director's spare time.
 
nice station...I always thought KECR 910 am should go to a modern christian type rock format instead of old schooler Harold Camping's programming..oh well nice to hear this new sound even though its on HD peace ;D
