I only see them making this move if WNCX is no longer staffed.
I haven't heard this sort of rumbling...this is just a guess on my part. I think if WNCX stays on 98.5, it isn't changing one bit.
Is there any word on if CBS plans on using HD stations for other (CBS-owned) sports stations?Nathan Obral said:OhioMediaWatch said:If CBS feels the need to move The Fan to 98.5...I wonder if they move a basically jockless WNCX over to 92.3.

Or they eventually pad up WNCX with syndie fare (Bob & Tom? VH1 Classic Rock Nights?) should longtime staffers depart. Will they try to keep Bill, Micheal and Paula together? A telling sign will be how they handle the impending departure of Maxwell. I don't think that slot will stay local after he leaves.
But NCX ain't changing formant-wise, regardless of where it lands. It will still be boilerplate generic limited-playlist classic rock.
As for "radio 92.3," supposedly the alt-rock format will move to an HD subchannel (which leaves 99.99999999% of 92.3's current audience SOL) and continue online streaming. Ideally, CBS should get an FM translator to relay the signal on, no?![]()

I wouldn't rule out "jockless" for AM Drive (with of course their usual WEWS weather updates). I honestly think that is what the NCX audience really wants anyway at this point.vjm said:AntDog152 said:Ever since Howard Stern left NCX, AM Drive has been an failure for that station. They won't go jockless...wouldn't make sense to be jockless in your most listened to daypart, with jocks the rest of the day.
They'll either have a music intensive local host, or go "Bob and Tom".
I agree with this. Whatever NCX decides to do after Maxwell should be "music heavy" because Maxwell would be another "personality" who has failed at AM Drive. If they do move one of their current jocks to AM (Bill Louis), would the slot that they left from become jockless? I think if Bill Louis goes to AM, his former Midday slot would not be replaced.OhioMediaWatch said:Assuming 'NCX does indeed send Maxwell adrift, and stays in the format...I'll vote for them at least doing a "more music" morning show, perhaps moving one of the existing jocks into AMD (PD Bill Louis, anyone?).
Not sure what happens to the existing music jocks as a group.

Nathan Obral said:My money's on Paula scooting to morning drive, and filling her night slot with "VH1 Classic Rock Nights" - which is a natural tie-in to a CBS corporate sibling.
They won't move around Bill Louis or Micheal Stanley. But if they DO, fire up those klaxon sirens.
And with all of this investment being made to The Fan, I wouldn't expect for a standard morning show of any type to be heard on WNCX ever again. Just my opinion.
Nathan Obral said:Let's throw up on this thread the off-the-wall, wild rumor that CBS could scoot soon-to-be-ex-WYSP/Philly morning man Danny Bonaduce onto WNCX simply because he is under contract by CBS for a while, and they need to do something with him.
*applying the proverbial grain of salt*
That would both solve the morning show problem for WNCX, and it keeps CBS from having to fork over more $$$ to hire a new morning show talent. Don't need to go into syndication (yet) nor have to promote from within (yet).
Where does that leave WNCX? Would it still be on the same trajectory for 92.3 in a year or two?
