Format/ Sales Confusion

Might just be me,I know, but seems odd how often you hear ads on stations that don't fit the format.Desperation for dollars,we'll call it. Used to be,you'd want your programming message to be consistent, including commercials. When I hear casinos and hip-hop concerts advertising on "gospel" stations such as Hallelujah-FM in Jackson, makes me think the salesrep is running the show, not the PD. Or maybe they don't have one there?

that seems to be a trend. i heard a casino commercial while flipping by a gospel station in new orleans. when i was in christian radio we checked all commercials before they went on the air to make sure they were SAFE. but than again cc is not a christian company. its the dollar a hollar company. got a dollar get a hollar 12-5am..
______________

I heard a remote for a farm implement dealer once on a CHR station in Greenville. Lots of kids buy farm implements, right?

This same station, which had a top-heavy teen audience, also ran lots of spots for local casinos. Most of their listeners couldn't get in the door.

This results in advertisers saying "radio doesn't work", which hurts all of us. But some folks, like the aforementioned station in Greenville, just don't care.

Somethings missing- Format Integrity -Usually that refers to music but it fits when applied to this situation as well. The Gospel audience won't stomach hearing commercials that promote activities that violate their faith. Next thing you know they'll be running ads for prayer cloths and "Casino Blessing" oil to anoint those slot machines into the service of the saints! Just send the Bishop a small donation...

P.S. Maybe they lost a lot of money in Enron or WorldComm and need to make some quick bucks to keep the bar open???

I wonder if CC's "Hallelujah FM" in Memphis runs casino ads too. I always see huge billboards for the station right next to the casinos on 61.

I don't even consider Q102 CHR anymore. Hot AC (albeit satellited) would be more like it. Would be nice if somebody would do a true CHR format in the Delta.
______________

You know what would be better? If MRS Ventures let go of KZYQ and KRKD to someone MORE professional, KZYQ would be a perfect candidate for a CHR in the Delta. KRKD, however would be more of either active rock or AC. That is wishful thinking on my end. What happens next to the "Maladjusted Radio Stations," are beyond me.
______________
