Former 1090 Call Letters Reappear In Boise

Boise's recently sold former non-com KBSU 730 AM, will become KINF.....KINF were the former calls on 1090 after KING-AM was forced to relinquish their "KING" letters, per their sale to Bonneville in 1995. Within days, 1090 switched to KKNG. Then KNWX......Then swapped frequencies with 770 a few months later.....

Hope I got the order right.....

Impact Radio Group has also applied for the call letters KINF-FM for the recently flipped to a simulcast of 'NewsRadio AM730 KINF'.. The AM/FM Combo is using the TRN Talk Radio Programming..

Speaking of which, who owns the KING-AM calls today? Google is failing me on this one.

Nobody.

You see, Belo has first dibs on the KING call letters. They are free to "loan" them to whichever radio station they like. But the station in particular must consult Belo first, as they are the ones with first rights to them. And the answer has been pretty much no. There's something in the FCC rule book on call letters that explains this in further detail

This is why there is still no KING (AM) today, even though they are one of the most valuable sets of call letters in America........

In 1994, there was an agreement that KING-FM could keep the KING letters. This did not apply to 1090.

A search on Radio-Locator also fails to bring up anything with the licensed call letters KONG, KING-TV's other channel in Everett. I thought there used to be one in Honolulu, not to be confused with local personality "Kamasami Kong." Betcha a rocker somewhere would want those calls.
