"Brother" Bill Duncan, former 690 WAPE all night man died in Georgia today after a long illness. Bro acted as a decoy when WAPE had it's big convoy from St AUgustine to Jacksonville in the mid 70's. Geaseman was promoted as the guy driving the lead 18 wheeler. Since Grease and WAPE kept his identity a secret, to protect the image, Bro Bill was reruited to ride in the lead truck and wave at the many fans who showed up to see Nino. No one knew that the real Greaseman was also riding in the truck, but didn't look anything like he sounded! Bill was a gentle man with old fahioned southern manners dispite his rather disheveled appearance. If you showed up at the old studios down near Doctors Lake on 17 in the middle of the night, you'd find him barefoot, workink the phones, and playing the tunes RIP Bro. We love you man!

Bill will be missed. He was the unsung hero in the days when WAPE did a terrific job of hiding what Doug Tracht (Greaseman) really looked like. Bottom line is Mr Greasemanelli personally is today and was back then a very sincere man with a gentle manner as was Bill Duncan. The whole idea of having Bill in the truck posing as the Greaseman during that convoy was masterminded by then PD John Long. That's when radio was great. Bill, Grease, Hoyle, Cleveland "Rock n Roll Wheeler, Dr John Winston, Domino Rippy. Hat's off to you all !! Thanks for making radio worth listening to. RIP Bill and Domino !
