Former Bristol Broadcasting/Paducah obit

Another good WKYX alum passed away almost 20 years ago, but I'm not sure if any of you are aware of it. Mike Stewart who hailed from Fairfield, IL and worked in Marion, Evansville, Paducah, Springfield, IL and Lincoln, Nebraska passed away of a heart attack in the late 80's. A great talent and a nice guy. Was a jock at 57 KYX back in about 74' or 75'. Did a talk show, too, I believe? Opinion-Line, I think. Always asked for people to call the Rapline at 554-4422. If that's correct, not a bad memory for an old guy.

The name of the show was Opinion-line, it was on 6p-6:30 or 6:45. The first number was 442-42-97 and a toll-free Mayfield line. We always did call it "rap-line", just sounds as strange as "Real Rock"

Sorry to hear about Tom Sheldon, I left in 78 and didn't work with him. Mike Stewart was a nice guy, rich set of pipes, Frank Carvelle, Bill Cheney, Dave Christian, Kurt-David Engleheart, John Stewart, Keith Todd, Brian Sargent. John "Records" Larson, RicK H., Mike Mohr, just some of the names around 74-78 while I was there.

That would be "247-30-26 toll free from Mayfield and Graves County..."

Jeez, how can I remember that from 30 years ago and yet I can't even remember my wife's cell number?? ;D

Sorry to hear about Mike Stewart, so long after the fact. More of a middle-of-the-road voice and personality than Top 40. I always thought Mike would have sounded great on an MOR station in Chicago or New York, but he had some issues. Nice guy but very unorganized. I followed him on KICKS for a while and every day it was the same thing. Mike would take 15 minutes to get his stuff out of the way: his cigarettes, his lighter, the ashtray, the books he would read while on the air, carts, records, et cetera, and his ever-present tube of Johnson's First Air Creme. And the whole area would be covered with cigarette ashes. I finally asked him to start cleaning up before he went off the air instead of after. That lasted about three days. I just had to accept that Mike was never going to do that. As I recall, he got fired at KICKS for no good reason. Sad to hear that he's gone.
